Kelsy has sculpted my head for nearly a decade now, and I’m not sure what I would do without her. I use sculpt instead of cut intentionally, as Kelsy is truly an artist and what she provides is far more than a haircut. She is seemingly able to intuit what changes, big or small, will make me feel the most powerful, beautiful, and fully myself. She edits and iterates my hair in a way that no one else ever has. In the time I have been working with her my life has changed, and my hair has changed, adapting a radically new texture after I gave birth. Kelsy has patiently worked with me to help me feel at home in my hair again. I am in awe of her artistry and feel quantifiably cooler and more confident in her presence. She has a rare gift and clients like me are lucky to experience, and wear, her genius.

I first visited Kelsy after a recommendation from a close friend/hair-crush with similar hair texture as mine. I’ve had many hairstylists over the years who simply didn’t understand my hair and I would wait anxiously to outgrow the cut, until Kelsy.

I firmly believe that hair is an extension of our being; of our nervous system. When you book an appointment with Kelsy, you’re attending and caring for every single part of yourself. I have been blessed with her expertise and artistry for over five years and she has helped me to anchor myself through hair. The way she meets you where you are on your hair journey is woven in with such kindness, openness and guidance. I’m grateful for her capacity to listen and to shape up my looks and sense of self.

I’ve lived with Kelsy cuts for eight years. Before that, I was envious of people with beautiful hair thinking it just wasn’t in the cards for me. Kelsy gifted me beautiful hair from my very first cut. Working with her gives me a sense of confidence not just with my hair but in my whole relationship with beauty. Add to that, she is a remarkable human who makes the experience of a haircut grounding.

While I have rarely-if ever- had a truly great haircut, I have continued to hope. Somehow, I came across an Instagram post of Kelsey Osterman’s work. The person I follow had a great haircut so thusly, I began an hour long deep-dive into the social medias of Kelsey and her haircuts. One word I came across was “lived in”. I have wildly curly hair but am low-maintenance. I didn’t want yet ANOTHER cut that only looked decent if I spent an insane amount of time “doing” it every morning! So, with hope in my heart, I reached out to Kelsey. She responded with information and an invitation to come in for a free consultation. So I crossed my fingers and headed in. She sat with me, listened to my experiences, my fears, my hopes …. Told me what she thought she could accomplish, my options and some context for her suggestions (for ex. Using the different areas of hair density to inform her cutting). She happened to have time for a haircut. I said a short silent prayer and committed. Boy am I thrilled. This is NOT your typical “curly cut”. This was an artist who uses her vast knowledge of shapes, hair and her own curly-hair know-how to give me a cut with which I HAVE YET TO HAVE ANY PROBLEM. I have experienced ZERO post-haircut remorse, and I am a few weeks into this cut. Blown away, so grateful, and ready to shout it from the rooftops.

My most magical haircuts have been from Kelsy. She works with the natural texture of your hair to create the most beautiful flow and movement. And just having the chance to be around her calming presence is an added bonus. I leave my appointments feeling inspired and rejuvenated by not only her talent but also our lovely conversation.

Kelsy has been my hairstylist for the past decade. Her talent is beyond comparison to anyone else I have ever seen. She is extremely skilled at listening to your vision and then creating a look that far outweighs your expectations. As a nonbinary person, she has helped me feel like a more authentic version of myself. I am forever grateful for the confidence she has given me as I navigate my day to day life in our gendered world and also on special days like my wedding. Her kindness and compassion are unmatched. All who I have referred to her have echoed these sentiments as well.

Kelsy’s craft goes way beyond hair—she electrifies the air around her and lights up the world she inhabits, bringing out the very best in people she meets, inspiring them with her warmth, generosity, talent, and artistry.

I’ve been with Kelsy since 2009. A big secret to Kelsy’s artistry is her sense of collaboration. Not only does she see every cut as a collaboration with her client, but she’s also collaborating with a client’s texture, their lifestyle, and the laws of nature. Headed to a humid climate for a vacation? Love to get sweaty on the dance floor? Moving into a new season of life and noticing changes in hair health? Need a style that can hold up to being stuffed into a hat for 5 months of harsh Minnesota winter? She’s got you.
