We have membership there and attend regularly. The manager of the location really need to change their practice of how they check members in. When we want to stop to tan, a lot of times we are in a time crunch. We only are tanning less than 10 minutes. However if there is someone new that the manager is talking to, instead of politely asking the new customer to wait while she checks other in, she would rather make existing customers who have other things to do wait for 1/2 hour or more while she gives the new customer her sales pitch. She did not offer to check us in and there was a line of folks who just needed to be assigned a room. This could easily be fixed by: 1 the manager politely ceases working with the new customer and checks existing clients in. 2: addition of a self check in system like a lot of places have that you can self sign in to a room that is open. A simple Kiosk would allow this. Folks should not have to wait 45 min for her to sign papers with other and sell product when all we need to do is check in. This is a simple change in how they manage.

Staff is friendly and the salon is solid. But, STC loses a star for not accepting cash. Apparently the message from Federal Reserve tattooed to all money “This is legal tender for all debts public and private” is no longer valid. Must pay with plastic at this location.

I’ve just recently started to tan again, and I used to feel uncomfortable coming in, because the workers were rude and a little stuck up. There are two new workers here that are in daily by the names of Kristie and Katie. They are so wonderful and kind and always ask me about my day! They are always working as hard as possible and see to it that I get into a clean bed as fast as they can. I love this location 🙂

They charge you but then tell you that the charge didn’t go through even though my bank said it did. So I lost a whole month of money and sessions. ALSO sometimes you don’t get the time you requested the bed turns off early and when you tell them they just say that they will look into it. They are not customer friendly.

Quick and easy to get in for a tan! Sometimes the spray machine doesn’t work correctly. After getting undressed, have to redress to go out and get help! Lotions and tanning products are very expensive!

In September I was in Altoona for work and visited that STC to get a spray tan. While I was there they up sold me to purchase two spray tans with some products. I bought it, got my spray tan and went on my way. I use to tan frequently but I do not live in a town with STC anymore so I usually only do an occasiOnal spray. Tonight, I traveled to the nearest STC (ames mortenson location, about 20 min from my house) to use my other spray tan I purchased in September. When I got there they verified that I did have a spray to use but there spray booths were out of order. No problem, headed to the opposite end of town to get my spray. I get there, verify that I do indeed have a spray tan to use and she would get me set up. THEN she tells me oh nvm the computer says you are not authorized and calls her manager over. Said ‘manager’ quietly tells the young employee that it says in 2010 I had an ‘issue’ with my membership and that’s why and she walks away for the employee to tell me that. So I asked what I need to do to utilize the spray tan I paid for. She said I could either buy one for 40-60$ or I could sign up for a monthly tanning package. I don’t care to do either of those because I already bought my spray tan and I don’t get to ames to tan often. Since 2010, I have gotten A LOT of spray tans. I tanned frequently in 2017 and from 2010-2013 so it just seems odd that all of a sudden, I can’t use the tan I have already paid for, especially after driving all over town, 8 years after some ‘issue’ that they can’t even explain what that ‘issue’ is. I liked the convenience of the spray booth but will use an actual salon with an actual person that can provide actual customer service for the future.

Why would you only have one worker?? I am currently waiting alongside 10 other customers and counting. Customers- if you want good service and beds go to Ankeny. This is pathetic. Ankeny Is always well staffed, friendly, and they work quickly. Will not be returning to this location.
