I’ll say Charles did a great job, conversational and wasn’t rude like other reviews said. However, the pricing was astronomical. I was charged $40 (not including any tip) for a basic fade haircut, no shampoo, no product or anything special. I’ve had this same basic haircut in many other large cities with higher costs and have never been anywhere near $40. I’m not sure if this is typical, but definitely ask in advance about your costs because I’m still shocked. I did not see any signage about pricing either, perhaps that’s my fault. I was a walk-in that just saw the shop and decided to go with it. I can assure you I would never pay $40 for what typically ranges $15-25 for me. It wasn’t until the haircut was finished when he said I owe $40 and I was floored. I didn’t want to argue over it because he’s a nice guy, but wow, I’m still in disbelief over the costs. I normally don’t do reviews but just had to make others aware of what could potentially occur. Good haircut though, not taking that away from him.

It’s extremely difficult to support black owned businesses, when you are disrespected by the owner of the business.. I’m a 64 year old black man, who prides himself on his appearance, so after being hospitalized for an operation. I needed a haircut and this place is in .y community. First of all the ow ner sprays my seat after I get up, but never anyone else’s seat then he implies that I didn’t take a shower and that my hair is dirty. I strongly urge people, especially in the black community of Hawthorne to avoid this business. It’s a terrible business and it’s a case of black ripping of black.

I randomly found Shear Genius when I moved in to the area and it was the best find ever. Charles and his crew are super friendly and very in the know with what’s going on, always an interesting conversation going on and it seems that there is always a steady flow of customers here. Charles memorizes people’s names and their cuts and always does an awesome job, you cannot go wrong by giving this barber shop/beauty salon a try!

Charles a really cool barber. I’ve been getting my hair cut by him for a few years now. He runs a professional establishment. No matter what style of haircut you want he can do. He takes his time and provides plenty of comedic entertainment while you’re in the chair. I highly recommend coming to Shear Genius.

I’ve been coming to Shear Genuis since I was 13 years old…I am now a 28 year old man who knows where service is definitely of top tier importance. Charles is like family to me and has literally seen my brothers and I grow up. His cuts have been flawless every time. He let’s everyone know up front that at certain times there is an increase on the prices just to get rid of the confusion up front. He stands by his brand and I respect it.
