Do not trust negative reviews, at least regarding Silvio. He gave me the best haircut I have ever had. Immigrated from nearby Naples in the 60s, he has brought his skills (he started haircutting when he was 13) to the US with the dignity of a hardworking Italian. Great cut, great place, great talk, great spirit. Give it a shot!

The people here are very nice. However, when I went in for a buzz, my neck got cut up, and when I asked why my neck was hurting, the woman didn’t say that she had scraped me. Instead she said my skin was sensitive (which, even if it’s true, does not mean that she didn’t scrape my neck). When I went home, I saw in the mirror that there were multiple cuts on my neck, and it hurt the entire day. (I got my hair cut around 8 AM and it still hurt the next morning.)

Awful cut. Got her shears caught in my piercings 3 times and not a single sorry. It was really painful and I audibly went “ow” Everytime. I showed her pictures and tried to be as clear as I could about how I like to wear my hair. I have bad vision and I can’t see whatever my barber is doing. I just have to trust them to do a good job. She said she’s been cutting hair for 30 years… No way. I came out looking lopsided. She cut very haphazardly. I had to touch up at home. I wish I could have gotten a refund but I’m not the type to argue. Expensive cut as well…

My husband tried another place nearby to cut his hair before, but we disliked it. For a few of months, he wasn’t sure whether he could get a good haircut in New haven and didn’t want to go for haircut. Finally we solve the problem here (remember, there are two shops of Phil’s, we went to the whitney one) . Silvio is professional. Many Asians like us believe we have to find an asian people to cut our hair, but this place change out mind. My husband is very happy. Thanks Silvio!! Men haircut is great!

Silvio has got to be the worst barber in the city. No matter what I have said to him in the past he still cuts my hair the way he wants it; then he proclaims how great it is. It’s not great and it is not what I asked for. Also, I have to agree this place is not a proper barbershop.

Could barely understand the person who answered the phone. Her answers were short, like she was annoyed to answer the phone. I got there and the woman at the front asked what I wanted, and when I said I was just looking for a trim, she looked away and tended to who I am guessing was her grandchild, while I stood there awkwardly, not knowing if I was going to even get a haircut. When I finally was getting a cut, the woman who was cutting my hair seemed like she was making fun of me for having such thick hair and proceeded to laugh and say that my hair was too long. Not sure if she was just joking or what? Nonetheless, cheap haircut, but I won’t be coming back.

For a college town, a not a bad price. Silvio, though I have noticed is not others reviewers’ favorite barber, is my favorite. He cuts my hair with a razor, which produces the blending I like between strands. (I personally hate when people can pick out which parts of your hair were done with an electric razor and which parts were done with scissors.)
