I used to be a member at MH, and my services were always good–both facials and massages. My beef is with management or whomever trains the scheduling person and receptionists–especially in the area of problem solving. We booked a couples’ massage about 3 weeks before our wedding. About two days before the appointment, I received a call asking if we could move our appointment from 1:00 to 12:30, which was fine with me. When we arrived for our 12:30 appointment, we were told that we had one massage scheduled for 12:30 and one for 1:00, as opposed to simultaneous massages as we originally scheduled. Additionally, the receptionist told us that the scheduler called her THAT MORNING to tell her that she had made a mistake with our appointments. I am willing to acknowledge that scheduling mistakes happen, but if they knew that morning, why weren’t we contacted before we came in at 12:30? Furthermore, when we arrived, the receptionist said, “I’ll check with the person who is scheduled for your 1:00 and see if she can do it at 12:30.” Unfortunately, that person stepped out for lunch, so they could not make that adjustment. Again–when they realized that morning that there was a snafu, why didn’t they talk to the 1:00 therapist right away to see if she could switch to 12:30? There was an absence of any kind of problem solving. To be fair, they called my husband a day later to see if he wanted to reschedule, and when he expressed his frustration, they offered for a manager to call us. However, this was one of those moments that we wanted to accompany our wedding weekend–especially to have these services on the heels of the stress that goes with planning and executing a wedding. Anything after that is anti-climactic. I would not recommend this place unless you want to carry the burden of checking multiple times between booking and your actual appointment to ensure that they have, in fact, kept your appointment as you originally scheduled.

Scheduled two appointments. One was cancelled through a phone call voice message and the other they wanted to re schedule with a different therapist on a time and day I was going to be out of town. They called the day of about three hours before my massage to tell me the person was sick and I asked when the next available appointment would be and they said in 3-4 weeks. Terrible service and extremely expensive

This location is the absolute worst. I’ve scheduled three appointments within the past six months and all three have been canceled. I’ve scheduled three within the past 8 months in Ames- one was canceled and two were with other therapists (thankfully they were able to still keep a commitment to my appointment). There is no way I’m this unlucky. This is also why I canceled my membership as soon as I was able and am trying to use my credits since there’s no option to refund them (how the heck am I supposed to use my credits if they keep canceling my appointments?!?). Customer service is also terrible- I asked for the manager to call me back after the first appointment was canceled and I had to call three times over a period of two months and leave messages to finally get a call after the third that was not great service either. They have a really great therapist at this location (per my friend) but they obviously don’t know how to run a business with customers. Highly disappointed and I hope no one ever has to go through the same experience that I have. Spavia in Ankeny or Aveda at Valley West will treat you so much better.

Not very impressed. I booked a 60 minute deep tissue massage at 2pm. I arrived 15 minutes early and didn’t actually go back to the room until 10 minutes after my appointment time. Then my massage didn’t start for about another 5 minutes after getting situated in the room. I had also added hot stones to my booking. Upon going to the room, the therapist tried talking me out of doing it. Saying that the best relief for my back pain were his “tools” (wiggling his fingers). It was a little awkward to say the least. He ended up letting me choose so I chose to do them still. The massage wasn’t what I’m use to. My therapist also had to leave to go get more lotion and said he would give me extra time. It was very repetitive with the same motions in the same areas. I felt even more tense leaving than when I arrived. It was very mediocre and felt like anyone could have done the same thing. The therapist I had was okay with conversation. There was small conversation here and there so it wasn’t too much talking. My massage was cut short at about 2:50pm. I understand needing to sanitize and prep for the next client, but therapists should be booked to allow time in between clients to do that. Then when I was checking out, the front desk woman asks out loud if I would like to tip my therapist. I feel like that is something that a client should be able to write in if they choose. It was very awkward. Overall, the professionalism was okay, but the commitment to a 60 minute massage is lacking. I shouldn’t have to pay for a 60 minute massage and only get about 35 minutes. Unfortunately, I probably will not be booking with them again.

Critical: Communication, ProfessionalismTherapists are great, but front end and management are horrible. Canceling appointments and rescheduling after confirming. Had an agreement to use last of time one day after last day of service, because of a rescheduling issue on their end. No communication till the day before, the one who scheduled me was the one called said I couldn’t have the appointment without paying for another month of service to keep the remaining time that I had available to use. She was very rude and wasn’t the 1st time she wa that way. She told me that I will get a call from a manager 24-48 hours and here it is more than 5 days later still without a call.Therapists are great, but front end and management are horrible. Terrible management. Booked an appointment for a Saturday a week in advance. Got a call the day of saying they had to reschedule. Ok so I rescheduled and then that day of again they called and asked me to move it to a later time in the day. I say okay and then get a call a few hours later saying they had to cancel again. They asked if I would like to reschedule for another day and I said no. Wouldn’t recommend.

I have been a member for 1 year. I am not new to massage/facials as I have been getting massages my entire life. I would say that my total experiences (12+) over the last year or so maybe 4 have been enjoyable. A 1 hour massage is maybe 45 minutes. There is a high turnover rate of therapist so once you find one that actually is good they seem to be gone the next month. The staff upfront are always welcoming but look as though they do not bathe frequently. No one has ever helped me find products or explained the ones I show interest in buying. Half the time my massage would be scheduled with one therapist and then i would come and I would be with someone else. Staff does not seem to be enthusiastic about their jobs and management has never followed up with me about concerns I have raised. I once had a therapist adjust my neck like a chiropractor. I then had to be go to physical therapy to fix the damage. Don’t be fooled by the lower cost for a membership. Pay a little more and go somewhere that actually provides good service!

Membership here is a huge scam. If you get deep pressure they never have availability, then when you try to cancel membership no one will even talk to you about it, they make you email and won’t do it via phone or in store. Huge scam, cost me so much money…wasted that couldn’t ever be used because scheduling is a nightmare. Horrible!
