Mr Montey was so welcoming when we came in for a cut last minute today, he just greeted us with the biggest smile and waved us over to come on over and take a seat. He was fast and double checked during the cut to ensure everything was headed in the right direction and held great conversation. Megan loves her new cut. Thank u Mr Montey we will be back.

Monty is phenomenal! Last week I was in desperate need of a haircut and a beard trim as I was beginning to look like the troll under the bridge. I thought about going to a few of the, I’ll say hipster barbers(not in a negative connotation) as I’ve done in the past here in Hot Springs, and was pleased – as I am very particular about my beard, as well as my hair, but since I’m thinning up top, Im mostly concerned with my beard. I looked at barbers mostly in the downtown area and was shocked to see that their prices had nearly doubled! I can’t pay 50+ dollars for a haircut and beard trim especially since I don’t have that much hair on top! It certainly leaves me no room to tip, which I always do. I was going to go out west to the barber I have used several times who is good, but who is rarely in his shop. He gives a good haircut, and his prices are reasonable. It’s a crapshoot though whether he’ll be there or not, and if one of the other guys gets you… Well I’ll put it this way. Last time I went, one of the other barbers lopped off 1/2 of my handlebar mustache before I had hardly sat down in the chair! He was too busy telling me about some thing he was building and how much it was costing, so I couldn’t say what I wanted before he started cutting. By the time I got a word in, I literally went home with half a handlebar and had to completely re-trim my beard and mustache (sadly with another lop). That’s a long way of getting around to the fact that I looked online to see if there were new barbers in town. Number one was Monty’s American Barber. Let me just say, he is a very, very experienced professional barber who had a great business in Louisiana but decided he wanted to change up life and moved to our beautiful town. He’s been here a year in January and that’s why you may not have heard about him. When I came into his shop, he invited me to sit down, and then he actually leaned up against the counter and said “you tell me exactly what you want me to do”. He didn’t say it as he started cutting, or putting on a cape, he was actually listening for what I wanted. After confirming that he understood what I wanted, he went to work. He’s quick but he is very focused and detail oriented . He’s friendly and conversational, but won’t ask you questions while he’s trimming your beard, because he wants every hair in place. He’s not rushed, but he’s fast. Most importantly, he gave me a great haircut and beard trim(just what I asked for), and he is reasonable enough where you can go see him on a regular basis, Instead of thinking of it as going out to JB Chophouse every once in a while as an “treat”.
