My boyfriend and I decided to try a couples massage at Zen Spa this weekend and we were disappointed. A day later, we are both experiencing soreness and pain which I don’t think you’re supposed to after a relaxing massage. The massages were okay for the price, a little too rough but we could have spoken up about that. My main issue was with the checkout process. When we went to pay, she charged us $70 per person instead of the $60 I was told on the phone. Okay, annoying, but I didn’t complain. Then I went to give the tip – the woman who was checking us out essentially told us that the tip we gave was not enough and tip is supposed to be 20%. I came prepared to tip around 17% on the $60 per person I had originally anticipated paying, so I can understand her disappointment, but I found it extremely inappropriate that we were pressured to tip more. We had already paid in full for the service – the tip is extra and at the customer’s discretion. For this reason alone, we will not be returning.

I’ve received somewhere between 30-40 professional massages and their skill level is unmatched. It didn’t take long to see that they are very knowledgeable in their craft and pay close attention to detail. My husband and I just had a couples deep tissue massage at Essence Spa and the entire experience was amazing. We were running a few minutes late and they were still very understanding and reassuring. Their professionalism and communication with us from before we even stepped foot into the parlor until we walked out of the door was five-star!
