Actinic Keratoses (AK)
These dry, scaly patches or spots are precancerous growths. People who get AKs usually have fair skin. Most people see their first AKs after 40 years of age because AKs tend to develop after years of sun exposure. AKs usually form on the skin that gets lots of sun exposure, such as the head, neck, hands, and forearms. Because an AK can progress to a type of skin cancer called squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), treatment is important.
Advantages of Mohs Micrographic Surgery
The most advanced treatment for skin cancer, Mohs Micrographic Surgery (MMS), was developed by Dr. Frederick Mohs in the 1930s. In the following decades, advances and innovation have led to the current Mohs surgery, allowing the specially trained Mohs surgeon to excise and examine thin layers of fresh tissue immediately, reducing treatment time, and allowing immediate reconstruction of the wound. Serving as surgeon, pathologist, and reconstructive surgeon, Mohs-trained dermatologists Drs. Brown and Dimitropoulos trace the skin cancer down to its roots, ensuring complete removal. The procedure allows the doctors to see beyond the visible disease, and precisely identify and remove the entire tumor, leaving healthy tissue intact and unharmed.
Basal cell carcinoma (BCC)
This is the most common type of skin cancer. BCCs frequently develop in people who have fair skin, yet they can occur in people with darker skin. BCCs look like a flesh-colored, pearl-like bump or a pinkish patch of skin. BCCs develop after years of frequent sun exposure or indoor tanning. BCC are common on the head, neck, and arms, yet can form anywhere on the body, including the chest, abdomen, and legs. Early diagnosis and treatment for BCC is important. BCC can invade the surrounding tissue and grow into the nerves and bones, causing damage and disfigurement.

Melanoma
Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer. Melanoma frequently develops in a mole or suddenly appears as a new dark spot on the skin. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial. Knowing the ABCDE warning signs of melanoma can help you find an early melanoma.

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC)
SCC is the second most common type of skin cancer. People who have light skin are most likely to develop SCC, yet they can develop in darker-skinned people. SCC often looks like a red firm bump, scaly patch, or a sore that heals and then re-opens. SCC tend to form on skin that gets frequent sun exposure, such as the rim of the ear, face, neck, arms, chest, and back. SCC can grow deep in the skin and cause damage and disfigurement. Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent this and stop SCC from spreading to other areas of the body.

We owe a huge amount of gratitude to Elizabeth Zanone out of the Darien office. My 16 year old daughter had been battling acne on and off for years. Our previous dermatologist put her on expensive prescriptions and treatments that never seemed to work, causing much frustration. When we switched over to see Elizabeth, she took one look and immediately knew the issue and how to treat her acne. Within just days we could see an improvement and her acne is now completely gone. Not only did she have the knowledge to pinpoint the problem, but she helped to educate my daughter on ways to prevent this from happening in the future and signs to look out for should the acne flare up again. We are forever thankful and would highly recommend you to anyone!

I was trying to find a dermatologist that was covered under my health insurance. I contacted my insurance company first and they confirmed that Dr. Vassilios Dimitropoulos at University Dermatology and Vein Clinic of Darien, IL was covered and was accepting new patients. Just to self-confirm, I also checked on the insurance website, and indeed it clearly states he is covered. However, after contacting the clinic’s office I was rudely hung up on after the receptionist on the phone claimed that they do not accept my insurance. She did not even let me explain that my insurance does indeed have coverage. This to me felt very unprofessional. Also, after reading other reviews on here, it seems that this is a common occurrence. I do not think I will be ever going here.

Have been calling for two hours, 1:30 – 3:30pm. No answer. What kind of doctors office/medical facility does this? Good physician. Very poor management. Very bad customer service. If the doctor wasn’t decent I would never go here. I cannot recommend this facility to anyone. I was only calling to confirm my appointment day and time.

Stay away from Dr. Elizabeth Zanone- she is incredibly incompetent. I went to see her about a cyst I had on my neck; she told me it was a lump on my lymph node. I went to two other doctors who told me my lymph nodes were fine and confirmed that it was a cyst. How could a dermatologist not be able to diagnose a skin problem while a regular physician could?

The staff there is excellent. The office is very clean. Appointments are on time and the doctors are the very best. They make you feel comfortable and it’s a breeze. I’ve had several treatments for skin cancers and would never go anywhere else. Lider is the best and Dr. D is a person that does a great job and puts the patient at ease.
