When I first moved to Madison, I came to Union and had a great experience. My stylist was super helpful and I was happy to have found a new haircut home. However, my experiences in the last 2 years have not been great. While the stylists are always talented they don’t stick around for long — meaning I’ve had 5 different stylists in the last 4 years. I also find that the communication from the receptionist side of things is not great. I’ve had 3 different appointments cancelled this year alone: one for not updating a stylist’s availability, a stylist leaving and them not calling me to let me know (I had to call and find out on my own), and one for someone going out of town. The poor communication and irregularity of staff definitely docks them from a 5 star to 3.

I’ve always felt lost with how I wanted my hair to look and so I’ve been used to getting just OK hair cuts that represented my indecisiveness. Then, I came here and Denise has given me the best haircut I’ve ever had EVERY Time! I’m not one to know how to style my hair, and I don’t have to. I roll out of bed and still get compliments on my hair! She’s even recommended me better shampoo, and yes, there is fancy shampoo that’s worth the money if it means healthier hair. Begone dandruff and greesy dry hair!

My wedding party and I got our hair done at Union Hair Parlor, and we absolutely loved it! We had a large group, and we were able to reserve part of the salon for our bridal group. It was really great to have everyone together like that, and it allowed things to feel a bit more private/like we weren’t in the way of others at the salon. We were also able to bring in breakfast/beverages for the group, which was incredibly helpful! We were all able to eat and hangout and get ready together the morning of the wedding, thanks to the setup at the salon. Coordinating everything with Ari from the salon was great and it all went very smoothly.

Great service and awesome vibe! I just needed a simple haircut and Denise was super patient and accommodating since I was late to my appointment. Don’t be late to yours!, but I appreciated that she was understanding and still left my hair looking great with the little time we had left for the appointment. Being one with thin curly hair, I’ve had trouble in the past with finding someone who can layer and cut it in a way that doesn’t leave it looking like a frizzled mess. She took the time to get to know what I wanted and made sure to keep checking along the way.

May 2019, Editing from 4 to 2 stars. I emailed them over a week ago to ask about an update to when the online scheduling will be back and have heard nothing. Communication is important, and they are dropping the ball. But hey, if you are obsessed with cars and parking, they are posting near daily updated on the status of Winnebago Street. We know they can keep us updated, I wish the same was happening for the online scheduling system. It went down in August of 2018, so I suspect we will hit a year before anything happens.
