Thrifty Cuts has cut my hair more than half my life. I meet original owner in 1982 and he was my barber for the next 10 years. Left here in 1997 to return 2008. My barber/owner passed away and his right hand and friend Loretta purchased the shop, kept everything the same and became my new barber/ stylist. I’m not sure what’s politically correct. She’s cut my hair since. Great atmosphere, reminding me of a shop were my Dad took me for my first hair cut, not given by him and the buzzers. Recommend Thrifty Cuts for all grooming. 12/18/21 Another perfect hair cut. Loretta’s always a joy it’s nice to have the same person cutting your hair knowing I like scissor cut over buzzers or that I move my head around a lot during my haircut. I highly recommend Thrifty Cuts Barbershop.

First time, woman was a touch racist. We’re both white. Didn’t care for some of the things she said. Second time… Tried to tell the guy how I like my cut… I’m quite specific. After twenty seconds he told me we’d be there all day. They cut your hair with you facing away from the mirror. I’d go on… But it’s little things they miss. It was just a bad experience for me. When I sat down, I asked him how he was; he immediately looked at his watch and said, “It’s been a long day.”

Loretta gave me the best haircut I’ve received in a long time at an incredible price. Nice barbershop with talented barbers and friendly regulars. Not pretentious, just real people doing good work. Will be back.

This is one of if not the oldest barbershop but definitely the coolest inside with all the memorabilia, in a perfect location downtown around in Santa Cruz almost 30 years ago they went into business the original founder unfortunately deceased but is owned and operated by his wife who is an awesome Barber/stylist on her own they are walk in and by appointment and cut women men’s a kids hair they made it through thee earthquake and have lasted this long but because of the covid are struggling to survive like many other businesses in town. So if you need or know anyone who needs a great haircut send them there and please help support all local businesses because just like this one many of them were founded or started by a local person and they all need your support I used to get my hair cut hear until I move away 20 plus years ago, the hair cuts were great then and still are just as good if not better now.

Great job. Low cost (leave a big tip!) Friendly fast service. 30 minute parking limits make it hard to relax as they are “STRICTLY ENFORCED”.

I took my son to get a haircut there. He already had a pretty cool haircut going on with this rocker Elvish rockabilly thing going on. Had some pretty sweet Sideburn action that I really wanted to keep. I told the guy that I only wanted it trimmed up and to keep the same hairstyle and he said sure okay. Instead he pretty much stopped on my little boy’s hair off and gave him a very stereotypical little boy haircut. He dropped all of his sideburns off and cut his front bangs very short. I decided to stay silent and let him do his work hoping that I could give him the benefit of the doubt and that the final product would turn out more to what I was looking for. Also I had been having to micromanage my five-year-old to get him to sit still so I didn’t want to add hounding the hairstylist on top of it. But as soon as I left I could see that it was a choppy uneven job and it was done entirely way too short. The front bangs but she cut too short or so choppy. But they’re already so short that I can’t really cut them to even them out. Feel like I wasted $15 but at least my kid had fun

I asked for a buzz cut size 3 and they got the job done. However, I have some obvious long strands of hair they completely missed around my ear, as well as I have some loose strands on the top. For $7 though, you can’t really complain. These issues can be fixed easily with a pair of scissors or your grooming tool and can fix it up just fine.

Best value in basic haircuts I know of. Really nice people, very community-oriented, seem to have many repeat customers. I revisited yesterday for first time in 10 years, it’s still excellent.

Poor attention to detail and they don’t let you see yourself in the mirror. On top of it they charged me 33% more for an average haircut because the woman thought she styled my hair, which was not true. I denied to use hair cream but was still charged extra. Not recommended, really bad experience.
