I should have done this review a long time ago but I was too afraid and don’t like being the bearer of bad news. I lived in El Segundo really close to this shop about two years ago. I am a black woman and have afro textured hair. I called multiple salons in the area beforehand and told them my hair texture and asked if they had someone familiar with my hair type and to straighten it. This place said they did and gave me the most inexpensive price so i made an appointment with them. Once inside i felt out of place. The hair dresser washed and conditioned my hair and then began straightening it. I could tell she didn’t know what she was doing and she was uncomfortable. The other hair dresser was giving her pointers on what hair product would work with my hair which surprised me because she was supposed to be the experienced one. I could tell she was struggling and she started getting frustrated. It seemed like, this was her first time working with afro textured hair. And it was not a good experience for me either. At some point, she didn’t want to finish curling/styling my hair but suggested I come back in a couple days so she could finish it because she had another client soon. I said no because I needed it done tonight for something. She finally finished and was frustrated and then charged me more than the range I was given over the phone. I should have said something then but i didn’t. I quietly paid more and did not make a fuss. Then I left with a bad taste in my mouth as it was the worse salon service I have ever received and my hair was garbage. I could have straighten my hair better than that. I don’t think I should have paid. I called ahead for this exact reason. To make sure I would be with someone experienced with afro textured hair. I was very disappointed. If someone says they can do something, then deliver but they did not and should have just said they wouldn’t be able to do it. I shouldn’t have come in feeling like my hair was a novelty and hair dressers looking on as if they were surprised when I was told by them they had someone experienced with my hair type.
