The Nines was where I went when I first moved to Austin and had to get a haircut for my new job. I had hair down to my shoulders and they completely transformed me. This time was no different. CJ cut my hair the first time, and since then Bessie has done it every time. She gets better and better. Usually I have a picture I show for them to go off of or throw out some suggestions but it’s like she already knew what to do. Owner Kathy. Is by far the coolest Kat to have cutting your hair. All of the ladies that work there are awesome and great stylists. The way you are treated, from the beer or neat glass of whisky to the warm Towel and neck massage make you feel great by the end of your hair cut! I dot let anybody else cut my hair.

Went here for over three years. You need to build a repartee with your stylist and only come see that one person in order to eventually get the haircut and style you want. I had four different stylists cut my hair and never got what I wanted the first time. I also saw a fifth stylist solely for a beard trim, once. The charge is very high, as high as anything in Austin. There is a discount if you repeatedly visit the same stylist, but this also means you get charged more if you don’t visit every 6-8 weeks or attempt to see someone new. Ultimately, I just got too many bad haircuts over the years to really justify the cost, including an absolute disaster of a cut from a new hire that was, for me, the final straw. I’m sure plenty of people have wonderful experiences, and they’re amazing for facial hair services, but in terms of cutting hair it feels like $25 service trussed up with extra pleasantries (like their lovely building and free beer) to justify slapping a $55 price tag on it.

Before The Nines I was getting the standard cheap “super”cut and no one paid any attention. After getting a few haircuts here I decided to switch up my style and I couldn’t be happier. I almost didn’t wanna leave a review because that means this place would get busier and I’d have to fight harder for my appointments. Bessi was my first real salon/barber stylist (I had only gone to whatever chains before) and had no idea what to expect.
