The hair and color bar is a beautiful salon! When you walk in, you are greeted cheerfully by the front desk and offered a drink from their fully stocked waiting area. My stylist Stephanie is always on time, personable and very realistic about what will and what will not work for my hair color and texture. I was hesitant to use someone new for blonde; but she had years and years of experience and gives me exactly what I’m looking for every time! They all seem super friendly and chatty with all the clients interacting while we get our hair done.

Recently there‘s been a post that’s become public via social media- I was one of many clients present during an innapropriate comment made by another client and I’m thoroughly impressed with how the salon handled the situation. I had Stephanie cut and color my hair for almost a year. She did an ok job but never talked to me, just spent her time in the break room when not working on my hair. Very expensive. She started putting something in my color that made my head break out and itch all over. I am certain she did this on purpose and would never recommend going in this establishment! Their State Of Alaska business license expired in 2021! Not sure if these hairdressers even have current licenses as I never saw one posted the 8 months that I went there.

To be upfront, I chose not to make an appointment here, and I wanted to share why. Taking a look at the service menu, I noticed the cost of a haircut is more expensive for women with ethnic hair or “thick/curly hair types.” While I understand that these hair types require more care and skill (and possibly more time depending on that skill level), the practice of up-charging women based on their hair type seems distasteful, particularly considering the “men’s cut” is far less expensive across the board, regardless of hair type. At best, this is arbitrary over-pricing and at worst it’s discrimination. It doesn’t go unnoticed and loses you clientele.
