As a college student that always wears my hair in braids out of convenience and leaves them in way longer than I should, I was very nervous about going into my appointment. I hadn’t had a trim in a while and my hair was very dehydrated so I was anticipating the worst. Boy was I wrong! Shakera was so welcoming and asked many questions so that she was able to properly assist my hair with knowledge of what I was doing right and wrong. She told me about specific types of products and we discussed all the insane myths that circulate in the natural hair community. I got a cut that wasn’t too angular (which is what I asked for) and she told me my hair was not as bad as I was worried it might be. Overall I think it was worth the money. She is extremely knowledgeable and genuinely cares about the health of her client’s hair. I left loving my curls and knowing what I need to work on for the future based on the goals that Shakera and I set for my hair! She also gave me products so that I would no longer need to go through the trial and error method. I would recommend her to anyone!

I cannot say enough great things about Kera! I spent a year in Syracuse for grad school, feeling really stressed about how I’d manage my hair care (I had long, thick, low density hair). Right upon meeting her, we talked about my hair concerns, my hair goals, etc. She helped me realize I’d been dehydrating my curls, and walked me through a new hair care routine and set me up with new products. I had a great experience at the Cuse Curlfriend’s Salon. Shakera created an open dialogue for me to feel comfortable to ask questions and learn about my hair. Especially, when it came to giving my hair a trim/cut. She asked about my level of comfort and listened to my wants and concerns. She also suggested some modifications for me to do my hair at home since I have an injury. All in all, the Cuse Curlfriend is a wonderful gem I discovered in Syracuse, since there are very few natural hair care services here. I definitely would recommend booking a session if anyone wants to learn more about caring for their Black natural hair from someone who is knowledgeable and experienced. I’ll definitely come back again!

She’s awesome and very knowledgeable! I’ve only been natural for a few months so my style was best described as curly fro with a lil mullet lol! She gave me a smart, easy style with a million curls! I’ve never seen my head so full of curls! And she did it with just shampoo, conditioner and a couple of gels? Not 6 to 8 different products and all day wash day? She showed me that using the RIGHT products and RIGHT application is key. Stop wasting your time watching a bunch of YouTube videos and book an appointment with the Cuse Curlfriend!
