I had an appointment on Wednesday October 19th with Dawn Brooks. Which was my third time meeting with Dawn. She schedules me 3-4 weeks out and usually puts me down for a two-strand twist and deep conditioning treatment. I am planning to attend a wedding on Saturday. When I arrived to my appointment, I asked Dawn if I could get my hair straightened instead of getting a two-strand twist. Dawn rudely responded; “No, I don’t have stuff set up for that and I’m trying to get out of here tonight.” Having your hair straightened and getting a two-strand twist takes about the same amount of time to complete so I’m not really sure about why it was such an issue to switch styles. Dawn has control over her schedule, if 5:00PM was too late she should not have scheduled me for that timeslot. You should treat every client with the same courtesy whether they have a 9:00AM appointment or it’s the last appointment of the day. Also, if a client asks for a different style that takes an equal amount of time to complete that stylist should be willing to accommodate. The only reason why I wanted to switch was because of an upcoming wedding that I’m attending. At the end of the day, no one ever wants to feel as though the stylist they’re seeing is so rigid and not willing to have a satisfied client. I started coming to Styles by Lisa so that my hair would be healthy and continue to grow. I definitely will not be booking another appointment Dawn Brooks. Good customer service goes a long way!

My 3rd and final visit was in July. Booked an appt weeks ahead and received a call a few days later from the stylist telling me she would have to re-book me with another stylist. Fine. Traveled 3.5 hrs to be told by that stylist she couldn’t do the requested style. Had plans so allowed her to give me a style that I washed out the next day.

I am not one to typically leave a review. However, if I have a terrible customer service experience I would express it. Once I walked in, I was not acknowledged or asked anything. I stood around while the young lady was on the phone. A simple “I’ll be with you in a moment” or “ what is your name, so I can check you in” would have been awesome. After a few minutes, another person walked over asking can I help you. After mentioning my child has an appointment and providing the name there was confusion because apparently the stylist name was the same first name. So as I mentioned my child’s name serval times and being told a different name several time like I am lost. After several moments, I finally had to say listen I do not know the stylist, apparently they change every time I come but my child name is……… please check her in and I can pay. Then a little hand goes up behind the desk by the phone who is the styles. All this wasted time and confusion when you knew you had this appointment was all I could think. I was not able to clear away the payment to know if I needed to leave a card or use accrued points like I planned because I knew I was not coming back in when my child was done. The other lady did know how to help and the phone conversation continued on the other end. So about time the appointment was over there was massive confusion simply typing to pay and clear the tab which I tried to do before I walked out when I dropped my child off. Talk about horrible customer service. They may need someone else to work the desk and just handle people that come in and payments because this was a big waste of my time when I could have been working.

I scheduled my appointment to get SEMI/DEMI permanent color. Based on the website’s description of the service, I was under the impression that I was going to have a coloring service performed on my hair which would be temporary, not permanent. I was fine with that as that is what I wanted. I get to my appointment and wait for Diamond to finish her previous client. After everything is done, she comes in and asks me if I was getting permanent hair color and I said no demi. She then asked me if I was there to cover up grey hairs as that is the only time they color someone’s hair using the demi permanent color. I said demi, but meant semi as I tend to get both confused and it said semi/demi on the service to book. She then informed me that she could not perform the service and asked me what I wanted to do and I asked if she could just give me a blowout without the color. She then said she does not perform that service and asked me if I wanted to reschedule. This review is not in any way meant to bash Diamond, as she was very sweet. I am more upset that this is a service that is listed on the website without a clear description of what each service is. I think as an establishment, that description needs to be updated. I will also say that, I was just told to reschedule my appointment and that was it. She did not have time to do anything else she stated, so essentially I wasted time and gas coming to the appointment if I didn’t even get a service done. Again, Diamond was sweet and never dismissive in any way, but I truly believe more help could’ve and should’ve been given to me. I have had semi permanent hair color prior so I know it is a service that can be done as well and if I said demi instead of semi, I’m not sure why I wasn’t asked if I meant semi especially when the description of the service says both semi/demi hair color.

I stopped by this salon while I was visiting Charlotte to do a wash and go with Norman. His assistant washed my hair. The wash was fine but I didn’t like how she detangled my hair. She wasn’t sectioning the hair and she was using a fine tooth comb which is really not the best tool for thick, natural, 4C hair. When Norman started putting the product in my hair for the wash and go, it took over an hour for him to put the product in my hair. For folks who have had wash and go’s in the past, you value them for how quick and convenient they are. I did not plan to spend 2.5 hours in the salon with most of that being spent just putting product in my hair. My hair was not properly dried and when your wash and go is too wet, it affects the longevity of the style. The day after my appointment, my hair was so weighed down with product that I could see the white flakes of the product sitting on my hair and every time I touched it, my hands would feel sticky and look greasy. I think they could work on their styling, speed and overall customer service.

Great black owned beauty salon. I made an appointment and was there 5 minutes early. My stylist was 10 minutes late but did a great job on my hair and made me feel like she was knowledgeable about my hair type. It is a little farther away from my home than. I would like but definitely worth a second visit.
