Critical: Professionalism, Quality, ValueI was a regular at this location and Niki Marie’s in Ilion since 2015. From time to time I would see a different stylist for whoever was available for the date and time I could make an appointment. My last visit there I saw a different stylist who was newer to the salon. I had a photo of exactly what I wanted, which was a dark base color and a lighter brown balayage toward the ends, just to give my hair some sort of dimension. I showed the stylist the photo several times and even the owner looked at the photo to give the stylist some guidance. I ended up being at the salon for 5 hours and ended up leaving with my base color not being touched, extremely light blonde balayage pieces all throughout my head, and a money piece style that does not even compare to the color that was shown in the photoI have zero idea how they could have thought that was even close to the photo and that was acceptable. Not only this, but I had splotches of color left all by my ears. I have very pale skin and this ends up staining my skin. After 5 hours I was done. I found someplace else who saw what was done wrong and fixed the color and was able to get the color off my face and protected my face from any future color getting on it during their process. When I brought up my unhappiness with the service provided to me to the owner, Niki, she stated that based on the photos she sees that she does not personally see blonde and that they thought I wanted caramel balayage, but also that everyone sees color different so that doesn’t mean I’m wrong. I NEVER said the word caramel yet through the entire conversation she was denying my hair being the color that I left with. Niki claimed that since this was different from just getting a dark brown all throughout my head like usual, that I was just in shock from how different it was from my usual style. OBVIOUSLY IT’S A SHOCK WHEN IT’S NOT WHAT I ASKED FOR. The situation being turned around on me like that is unprofessional. Niki would not refund me because as she repeated, SHE did not see a difference from my hair to the photo and because I went someplace else to have it fixed (even though Style in the Square does not have a refund policy stating this). I was offered a credit to my account at the salon, however, I don’t see why anyone would want to return after 5 hours and the salon letting you leave with something that is clearly wrong. I don’t care that I didn’t get my money back, it’s the fact that clearly the salon has poor judgement when it comes to looking at and comparing colors if they claim what I left with matches the photo I provided, and they stood by it. I wasted an entire day off. I have always gone out of my way to make it to either of the salon locations. After this I will gladly find another salon. The photos shown are the photo used for reference and the photo the salon took of my end result.
