Critical: ProfessionalismTLDR: I had such high hopes for this place, as it’s the best rated in the area, but I don’t recommend.The story: It started fine, my boyfriend had called to make me an appointment for a gel manicure and when I came in a woman showed me the gel colour options and told me to find what I wanted. I picked a colour and when she came back over she said I should get a dip because it’d help make my nails be healthy and strong. I agreed (without knowing what that actually meant) and then she told me to choose a new colour. Realizing that she was offering me a different service, I told the man who was going to do my nails that I changed my mind and didn’t want the dip, I just wanted the gel that I had asked for initially. He agreed, took me over to the seat, and got to work. I never get my nails done, so I didn’t know what to expect. The tools were very painful, he kept looking away while using the nail file and drill thing, and he seemed very rushed despite there not being customers waiting or anything. When he was done and we went to pay, the total was twice the expected. The woman told us it was because of the dip (that I didn’t realize I had gotten since I never got dip or gel nails before but asked for gel). I had my boyfriend pay what she was asking, admitting maybe I hadn’t communicated as effectively as I needed to and probably should’ve known it was wrong when it was being done. Going out to the car, I was so excited to see my new, beautiful nails. Sadly, I broke into tears upon laying eyes on them. My fingers, cuticles, and nails felt so sore. I was bleeding, had hangnails, and there was polish all over my skin. My nails were unevenly and poorly coated, differed in thickness, rough at the ends like they were never filed, had fuzzies painted into them, and the colour didn’t look how it did on the sample. Seeing how upset I was, my boyfriend tried to get me to go back in to see if they could fix them up for me, but I refused (which I’ll admit is a fault on my part, but I didn’t want to be in more pain for what might not be a better result). He went in to talk to them about it himself with pictures and videos and they offered us a little less than 50% of the cost (not including my tip) back, which he accepted. We then headed home and my nails immediately started getting messed up as I did household tasks. Upset by the whole situation, I decided to touch up and fix what I could. With a glass nailfile, cuticle trimmer, and some acetone (all panic bought from Dollar Tree), I was able to make my nails look okay. Just okay.Conclusion: I expected more from a nearly 5-star rated salon, I really did. I’m upset that they upsold me without telling me. I’m upset that they went through with a more expensive manicure when I told them I didn’t want it. I’m upset with the quality of my manicure. I’m upset that I trusted them to do my nails right before I was getting professional pictures taken. At the end of the day, it was a learning lesson I guess. If I somehow (never) had a problem I would not doubt they would accommodate for it and make it right! Tina, Tom and Wan are an all star team you can tell they enjoy working together and do so well!!!
