I was extremely disappointed with my experience here. I was leaving from Athens to go to a wedding in Pittsburgh on a Saturday. I booked an early morning appointment for a blowout so I didn’t have to worry about doing my hair once I arrived in Pittsburgh. I literally only needed a wash and dry with some loose curls put in. I made sure my appointment was with Sarah after reading excellent reviews. I showed her 2 pictures of women with hair the same length or shorter than mine with an idea of the loose/wavy curl I was looking for. I do it with my flat iron all the time but I made an appointment this day for convenience. She was extremely nice and professional. She expressed no concerns with the pictures I showed her. While drying and styling my hair I was facing away from the mirror. When she finally finished I was turned to reveal my hair was not wavy or even remotely curled in anyway. It was limp and piecey. She explained she had used a beach spray on each section that would make my hair look like the pictures over time that day but that the girls in the picture had longer hair than me (entirely not true) and it wasn’t possible to do my hair like that (also not true, I do it all the time). So $55 later I had to attempt to salvage my hair after driving to Pittsburgh before the ceremony. I actually had to wash it and redo it completely between the ceremony and reception because it was so heavy and gross with that beach spray product that it irritating my scalp. All in all, I’m shocked that it was even possible to mess up a blowout. Literally only a wash and dry then some waves with a curling iron. If you can’t do what the client is asking for you should tell them at the beginning of the appointment, not the end. It was a huge waste of time and money. I wish I had just done my hair myself and saved the stress.

Fantastic experience! Heather did my hair today and I do not have enough wonderful things to say about her and the salon! I chopped off several inches of hair was very nervous about going to a new salon, but all of the staff members were wonderful! Heather put so much effort and detail into both the cut and coloring of my hair and it turned out perfect. I have not been this happy with my hair in a very long time!

From the moment I stepped in the door at the Standard, I received the kind of high end treatment I would expect at a cosmopolitan salon. I was graciously received, my coat was taken, and I was offered a beverage. As I relaxed on the sofa in the brightly illuminated lobby (which was spotlessly clean) , I enjoyed the local art featured on the walls. The decor is tasteful and modern, and it is obvious that great attention to detail is given to ambiance and service.

Sarah did a beautiful job. I explained how I’ve been trying new salons ever since my favorite stylist had moved, and how the other salons had messed up my layers. Not only did she fix my layers, but she showed me what kind of cut works best with my length until I’m able to grow it out to the length that I want!

I would not recommend this place, especially if you have naturally blonde hair. The stylist was very reluctant to do what I asked, which was to fill in my roots with natural highlights. I even asked her specifically to include a certain section of hair and she just told me why she wouldn’t do it! I am assuming she didn’t have the confidence to work with my naturally light hair.

I cannot say enough good things about The Standard Salon’s esthetician, Sara Schumm. Sara has been doing my Brazilian bikini waxes for over 3 years now. She uses Nufree along with finipil, which makes for a completely breezy service. Not only are the products she uses high quality, she waxes extremely quickly and is very knowledgeable with almost every skin question I’ve ever had. Her room is very comfortable and private. The price is on point also. If you’re looking for any type of skin service and are in the Athens area, PLEASE go see Sara!!!

I lived in Athens for almost 2 years. I kept driving to my parents’ town (4 hours away!) to get my hair colored because I was too nervous to go anywhere else. Today Raeana did a full highlight on my hair, and it was perfect! I highly recommend going here if you are looking for somewhere to get your hair colored in town.
