The best bang for your buck is purchasing the day pass here. And its valid for the entire day from 6 am to 9 pm. Its only $30. Free surface parking lot. I came here after a long day of wine tasting and ended the night in the outdoor hottub. Indoor pool and sauna and steam room. It was a very relaxing last day in vermont experience. All of the amenities are super clean.

I have been to various spas in Vermont (including the Equinox) and this one easily takes first place. The spa is huge – equipped with various comfy lounges with fireplaces, showers, and two floors of spa treatment rooms. You also get access to the gym and pool. They have a wide variety of treatments with very fair and reasonable pricing. The rituals (such as the mud mask detox and the ultimate zen) are the way to go. They are 80 minutes each and include massages, oil treatments, exfoliation and more. The online booking system is super easy and efficient to use. A true oasis of relaxation!!

Not good. I paid for a day pass to use the spa facilities. The sauna in the men’s locker room was not working which was one of the main reasons for my visit. An attendant tried to get it working, but to no avail. No hot water in the showers, which it sounded like the attendants knew about which is pretty strange. Hot tub water was tepid. Overall…pretty terrible. I will not being going back.

Critical: QualityWe live about an hour away, and wanted to have a spa day. We got there, no massage spots available which was fine. We had purchased a day pass online just in case that was the outcome. The facilities seemed ok to begin with. Until you used the bathroom. The sinks had hair on them, and just dirty. The robes were scratchy and the indoor pool smelled terrible. Stuffy. And just not good. Bathrooms by the pool were also in terrible shape.I understand this is when the world is short staffed. But making sure the bathrooms and indoor areas are clean should be a priority. We left after spring and house and a half there. We live about an hour away, and wanted to have a spa day. I love how it is not part of the hotel and you may keep going without staying a day/night.

We had a one-night staycation at the Essex last week and my family cannot wait to return. First, the staff are wonderful. Second, the hotel is beautiful. Everything about our stay was gracious and generous. From the coffee, tea, hot chocolate station, smores kits. We dined at the Tavern for dinner and breakfast and it was fantastic. We got to spend an hour at the pool and it was clean, warm, not hyperchorinated, clean towels, changing area, big outdoor hottub. Great gym, too. I even remember the housekeeper’s name because he was so nice. I realize the hospitality business is short-staffed but we never felt like the Spa at the Essex was cutting corners. Bravo. We brought home chocolate cannolis and I made a mental note as to which framed photos of local farm and outdoor scenes (for sale) were my favorites. The Essex delivers everything they promise. We can’t wait to return even though we live only an hour away!!! Thank you team Essex Spa– keep up the great work.

This place was just okay. We went for a staycation in 2021. The rooms were definitely nice and we got a good price on a room for 1 night due to COVID. There was a long “line” to get into the outdoor hot tub which doesn’t feel very relaxing…The sauna was closed (because of COVID) which was a bit of a bummer but, I understood. I got a massage – the pressure wasn’t the best and didn’t feel like an hour long at all. I thought it was crazy that they put a 22% fee on top of the massage cost. It’s really expensive for what you get and I definitely prefer Stoweflake over The Essex.

I have been to this spa a few times and always love the atmosphere. All of the areas are nicely done and the fireplaces in the waiting areas are very relaxing and enjoyable especially on a snowy winter day. I enjoyed my massage although I have to say that for the price the massage should really be longer. A full hour or hour and a half is how the massages should be scheduled and the changeover time should not be taken away from the massage time. Since I don’t use any of the other facilities like the steam room or sauna it seems overpriced to me. As at least one other customer mentioned it seems unreasonable to also add a 22% fee on top of the massage cost. This is not a standard tip amount. I can see that the fees are inflated due to being a “resort” but they are too high for a standard massage.

The Spa at The Essex is the perfect respite from the gloomy winter weather in the Burlington area this time of year. Instead of traveling to Stowe, this Burlingtonian was able to reap the benefits of this facility without having to drive up the mountain. The lobby is well appointed and spacious, and the women’s facilities were immaculate and up-to-date. The women’s lounge is a bit small and difficult to relax in when it is full as the space doesn’t allow for it. The upstairs co-ed greeting room is much more spacious. My massage was wonderful and the treatment room was very large but cozy at the same time. I then proceeded to use the hot steam sauna which was divine, and then the wet steam sauna. Unfortunately the wet steam sauna did not smell like eucalyptus as advertised, so I did not linger. I will absolutely visit the spa again in the future and hope that perhaps someday the women’s lounge can be slightly reconfigured and the wet steam sauna will have a more pleasant aroma.

The overall experience was perfect. Showing uo early and using the sauna, hot tub, steam room and shower before the massage was extremely relaxing. The massage from Maria was awesome. She was very attentive and knowledgeable and enhanced the experience even more with her wonderful personality. She found all the problem areas and focused on making this “my time”.
