I got a haircut by Janelle and not only did she give me EXACTLY what I wanted, but her customer service and consideration for me during the appointment was outstanding. I cut quite a lot of hair off and she made the process so much more fun and exciting than I was expecting. If i could give more than 5 stars i would, definitely come here for your next haircut! Janelle is the Best hairstyleist/colorist that I’ve had in a long time. I had 4 bad hairdressers in a row! Janelle made me feel very comfortable and she took the time to listen to me and showed me a couple pictures so we were on the same page. She made my Bad hair to Gorgeous locks!!! I’m new(ish) to the area and have been in search for a salon/stylist for some time now. Well, I’ve finally found them! Shine has a super cute and chill atmosphere to go relax and get beautified. Emily was my stylist and she is amazing!! She’s a Master Stylist and it shows. She’s well educated and super knowledgeable in her craft. You can tell she takes pride in her work and loves her job! We had some great convo and I had full confidence in her to work her magic. She gave me exactly what I was looking for in a color and cut. I debated whether to post this review or not, but I feel like I have to. Let me start this by saying the salon is beautiful and I was so excited to finally get up the courage to go in! Between my anxiety and my past experiences, I haven’t had my hair professionally done in a long time. I also had some preconceived ideas about what a consultation should be and maybe I just don’t understand what they actually are. I went to Shine for a consultation this week and the stylist I originally booked with was running behind, so they put me in with someone else. That was fine since I was on my lunch break and didn’t have a lot of time to wait. The new stylist took me to her chair and I began to explain what I was looking for and she sort of gave me a blank look, like why are we having this conversation, and it made me nervous, so I don’t think I was conveying what I wanted very well. She mentioned multiple times how she would do whatever I wanted and just show pictures at my appointment, but what I wanted was suggestions on whether what I was asking for was suited to my face shape and skin tone. Then she mentioned how my ends needed to come off, but she said it in a way that I felt attacked and when I countered that I didn’t want to, she said “but why”. I explained I was attached to my hair and cuts that take off any length stress me out because a previous stylist took half my hair when I showed them a picture of a much longer cut. I started tripping over my words and saying how my ends aren’t even split and it’s pretty, meaning my hair, and she looked at me and said “you think that’s pretty?” referring to my ends, but in a very insulting manner. At that point I was mortified and totally blown away. I was so embarrassed and didn’t want to make a scene so I even booked an appointment on my way out. Once I returned to work, I called to cancel the appointment, but that same stylist picked up the phone and I ended up just switching the date and waited to call this morning to cancel. I followed the owner on Facebook during her reign as Ms. Maine and have been wanting to try her salon since it opened, but as I mentioned in the beginning, my anxiety around not being heard and having a style I didn’t want when I leave, prevented me from making an appointment until this week. I’m going to Boston for a weekend soon with my husband for our wedding anniversary and wanted my hair looking beautiful for the trip. Now I have to find another salon and start the process all over again. I’m just so sad that I had this experience because many people have had wonderful experiences here. I wish I was one of them.

Shine did an amazing job on hair and makeup for my wedding. All of the bridesmaids and I were so happy with their hair and makeup. I am autistic and have a bit of trouble with things like hair cuts. This is a great place for people with anxiety. They do appointments and were right on time for me. Plenty of public parking right behind the building. They take credit cards for the base costs but cash or venmo for tips. There is an ATM near by. They are so friendly and clear with directions. Janelle gave me a great cut and lots of good hair care advice. No sales-driven stuff like trying to sell you products or anything. I will definitely be making this my regular place.
