I had the BEST experience with Shear Abby Salon! I booked Abby during COVID & had zero problems with services for my January 2022 wedding. Being an out of state bride, I wasn’t able to complete my trial until the day before my wedding. Abby put me completely at ease and delivered the best trial. She made me feel confident in my choice & the day of my wedding she knocked it out of the park on not only myself (27) but my mother (65), my mother in law (47), & the entire bridal party. She worked great with all skin and hair types and made everyone feel naturally beautiful!

I hired Abby for my bridal hair and makeup and she also helped my mother and a few of my bridesmaids (plus she squeezed in my brother’s girlfriend with little notice!). She was incredibly timely and her work was perfection. She even worked with me when I messaged her after I had already completed my trial session and explained that I wanted to change the original look she had created. I messaged her after I had stood up in another wedding that was just before mine. She responded quickly, told me to send her photos of how they did my makeup that day, and was open to the changes. My wedding was over 4 years ago, and I still think that was the most beautiful I have ever looked. My husband and I plan on having a photoshoot on our fifth anniversary, and I know I will be contacting Abby!

rarely write negative reviews, but I feel the need to warn other future brides and advise you think twice before booking Abby for hair and makeup on your big day. I went with her because of her impressive track record of positive reviews but had far from a 5-star experience when I went to the salon for my trial. I have had my makeup professionally done many times and know what to expect from a professional, especially at the price tag Abby charges. However, she is not a professional makeup artist and I could have done a better job myself on my makeup. Without going into every detail – here are the main red flags. 1- She didn’t do anything to prep my face for makeup, like wiping off the existing makeup. 2- She didn’t have makeup essentials to achieve the look I was going for, such as lip stain, and liquid eye liner. She said I can bring my own products on the day-of for her to use on me. For what you are paying for, you shouldn’t have to supply your artist with products. 3 – There was a very noticeable line on my neck where the powder-only foundation stopped – it was almost orange against my fair skin. 4- She cut the fake eye lashes in half before application, so they made a 90 angle on my eyelash, and the seam and glue from the eyelash was exposed and visible as she applied it more on my eyelid than at the base of where my natural eyelashes start. 5- Lastly, and what really made this experience terrible is the fact that she felt comfortable enough to rant about politics, conspiracies and inappropriate topics. She told me that the Chinese are coming here and buying up all our land for cash and are “planning something” and “need to keep their crazy over in China”. And that’s just one example – I could provide more – but they are too inappropriate to share. I reached out to her detailing all of my concerns with the makeup application, and that I wasn’t comfortable moving forward because I don’t want that vibe on my wedding day. She ignored my request for at least a partial returned deposit and an amicable agreement to part ways. Her contract is written in a way that only protects her, not the bride. She has the ability to terminate the contract if it’s not a good fit for her, but the bride cannot. Be careful when scheduling your trials, ladies. I would think that the point of a trial is to make sure you’re getting what you want. With Abby, you are locked in with her no matter how your trial goes. So I am out $600 and learned a lesson – book people who allow you to experience them first before committing.

Initially I was looking forward to working with Abby. However upon needing to reschedule my wedding due to covid, Abby showed her true colors. Both mine and my fiancé’s moms got Covid a week before our wedding, of course. Abby’s comment that I lied about having Covid was because all I said was “we got Covid” instead of “our moms did”. Just to spare the unnecessary details. The point is Covid postponed us.

I was supposed to be married in 2020 when COVID hit, and I had already paid majority of my vendors for their services when we needed to cancel because of the pandemic. I was so disappointed in Shear Abby. Not only did they not let me out of my contract, but Abby also wouldn’t allow me to have store credit with her salon to offset my loss. So, no refund- not even a partial one, and no store credit. I had paid near 1,000 for my deposit to secure the team for our date in July. I had planned to have all 8 of my bridesmaids have their hair and make up done.
