FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction)
FUE stands for “Follicular Unit Extraction” and has become the most prominent trend in the hair-transplant field in the past decade. Follicular units, the naturally occurring hair groupings are individually harvested and the harvest sites are often healed with tiny, almost undetectable scars. The capability to have a hair transplant and wear a short hairstyle is one of the major reasons to consider an FUE procedure.
FUE-FUT Combination
In the majority of cases, Dr. Lam performs either FUT (strip) or FUE in isolation. However, there are a few clinical indications for combining FUT and FUE during the same procedure. Depending on donor availability, sometimes a combination of two types of donor harvesting or two types of donor areas may be needed in order to obtain a maximum number of hairs to be transplanted.

Although the public typically thinks of hair transplant as a primarily male-targeted procedure, Dr. Lam regularly performs hair transplants in women for a variety of reasons. About 30% of women over 30 years of age experience hair thinning, so hair transplant is a very common procedure that improves hair density and provides a solution for female hair loss. Hair transplant can also be undertaken to restore the hairline in women who have either lost the frontal hairline due to anaginghair loss or simply were born with a very high hairline.

Formula 82F – Topical Finasteride with Minoxidil
This compounded medical formulation is the 82M formula mixed with topical finasteride along with some other modifications to improve efficacy of both minoxidil and finasteride.This formula is designed for men and for some post-menopausal women. Women of childbearing age cannot take this medication and should not touch a man’s scalp for 3 hours after application of the product.
Formula 82M – Compounded Minoxidil with Retinoic Acid
Formula 82M is a pharmacy-compounded minoxidil-based solution that has been in development over 15 years and was introduced to the medical community in 2010. This prescription-only 82M formula can be used in both men and women that can provide greater efficacy than standard minoxidil formulations. In comparison with plain minoxidil, the formula 82M has been found to be easier to use, less irritating, and with improved efficacy for both male and female hair loss.

Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) refers to medical tattooing of the scalp used for camouflaging purposes. As an early 30’s guy with slowly receding temples, I had known for many years that I would eventually want an FUE hair transplant. However, when shopping around with different surgeons in DFW, I noticed that many of them promised crazy results within one surgery, without a long-term plan for the patient to keep a nice head of hair throughout their lifetime. Dr. Lam was different- he was the only one to offer a conservative opinion on how much donor hair to graft, and how much to fill in the receding hairline. I very much appreciated his honesty, and the fact that he came at it with an eye for potential future need for more hair restoration to be completed. He didn’t promise me unbelievable results, but rather, a great-looking hairline that was maintainable long-term, and satisfied the client. Yes, this is going to be a more costly surgery than your average hair surgeon, but I promise it is worth every penny. One week after my FUE procedure, the donor area already looks almost back to normal, and I can’t detect any scarring. On top of that, the area where the grafts were transplanted give off almost no discomfort, and the bleeding, scabs are quite small and minimal. From what I can see, the hairline is natural and made to look like a real hairline. As far as the day of the surgery, it was shockingly easy. You’ll be given the meds you need for the day to fly by- it was 5 PM before I knew it. The nurses and technicians are incredibly friendly and kind, and really do their best to put you at ease (Thanks to you nurses- y’all were awesome.). I was fairly anxious, as I tend to be around needles, but there was basically zero discomfort at all, aside from a bit of pressure on a couple of injections. No pain at all during the procedure, and almost no pain afterwards. There’s some itchiness with the scabs, but nothing I could describe as “painful”- I haven’t needed to take the prescribed pain meds even once yet. After reading about and seeing so many horror stories and bloody, painful messes with other hair clinics, I couldn’t be more impressed with the comfort, painless ness, and quick recovery time for Dr. Lam’s procedures. Now I just can’t wait to see what my hair looks like a year from now once it’s all grown in! Long story short, I highly recommend Dr. Lam and his awesome team.

I am a patient of Dr Lam. I had hair transplant surgery in June of 2020. The surgery was easy for me the patient and the staff were all very professional and helpful. They explained everything to me and set realistic expectations. It did not have any effect on my work schedule . My recovery went well and with in a few weeks I was doing most of my regular work out activities. I came in for hair restoration procedure in December 2019. Dr. Lam and his team are outstanding! They gave me me a detailed exam, answered all my questions, and explained what my options were in order to give me the result I wanted. The procedure was much easier than I thought it would be, and the recovery was no problem. No pain or discomfort at all. I chose to have hair replacement surgery before I experienced significant hair loss and visited several providers before choosing the Lam Institute for Hair Restoration. Several key differences I discovered when meeting with Sam and his team is their commitment to making a ten to twelve-hour procedure pain free as they used a mild sedation shot to put me asleep. Less waking me for lunch, I was asleep for the whole procedure. Additionally, I learned in my research that the hair restoration team at the Lam Institute does not perform hair restoration surgeries every day which was very comforting as I discovered other providers will do several surgeries five to six days per week. I did not want my hair replacement surgery to be at a high-volume provider as I wanted to be a client not a number. Many types of procedures exist for hair restoration, but I purposefully chose the strip (FUT) procedure as I wanted to give myself a future option for a second hair replacement surgery as it is not uncommon to have a second smaller surgery 15 to 20 years after your first procedure. I shared my plan with the Lam hair restoration team and we discussed in detail their procedures for minimizing to eliminating the incision scar from the FUT procedure. Five months post-surgery, I do not have a scar line on my head, the bald spot on my crown is gone, and the receding hairline is non-existent. Additionally, I was informed at my recent check-up that the full growth of the new hair is not fully complete until 10 to 12 months post-surgery which is icing on the cake as the thickness of my hair five months post-surgery already looks like my 20-something hairline. I am extremely satisfied with my decision to trust my hair with the Lam Institute for Hair Restoration.
