New to town and had never been here before. Came in to get my WEDDING cut so nerves were running a bit high due to all the rushing around. Fred took the most amazing care of me, offered great conversation, and truly took the time to make sure it was the absolute best it could be for my wedding. I would recommend his services 100 fold because his work is his craft and he does it extremely well. Thank you Fred and I’m glad I found Samson’s Barbershop! Count me in as a new regular.

Frederick gave me a haircut last minute and made me feel so welcomed and special! He mentioned a movie he wanted to see and I expressed interest as well and he showed me the trailer on his phone while still cutting my hair! He told me he wanted this to be my best haircut and he achieved this for sure! Super good dude! Whole team here is solid, so highly encourage stopping in here!

Jake is one of the greatest conversationalists I have ever encountered and he gives the greatest cut I have ever had. His attention to detail and leaving room for the creative always leaves me walking away a better person. His shop is full of caring people who love to chat, laugh and enjoy all that they do. I wish I could rate it more but 5 stars is all I can give. Trust me if you find a negative thing to say about Jake or this place you truly have no taste! So stop being lazy and go get a cut from a freaking legend!!! While your there buy some pomade for your hair! The product they sell is the freaking best and makes me feel like a stud! Trust me when I say go get it, and support one of the Local guys!!

I went in for my first haircut in about a year. I am very particular about my hair. I have only been to one barbershop at school and they butchered my hair. When I came to Frederick, he assured me of a good experience and the overall vibe in the barbershop was so amazing! I am beyond ecstatic with my haircut from Frederick. Come for the cut, stay for the pomade! You won’t regret swinging in. Frederick and Jake are both top notch but you can’t go wrong with any of their barbers – They have a high standard. For the first time in a long time, I found a barbershop that gives me the feeling of welcome and community. Used to be a normal thing with barbershops for me as a child and as the years went by this evolved from a place of fellowship and safety to simply a place to get your hair cut. Walking into samsons and getting my sons and my hair cut with Fred Mouton, it immediately felt right. Not only does Fred do an amazing job with the clippers and scissors, but the conversation and vibe inside the entire shop, is undeniably astounding! The shop is clean, well represented of good business and also right along a beautiful walk in Kalamazoo. First thing my son said as we were walking down the street to Samsons, “this place looks much better than any other shop we’ve been too!” Long story short, we walked in with a smile and left with a smile and a new home for haircuts, with Fred and Samsons.

I cannot recommend Frederick enough. He’s the only person I trust with my hair. My hair’s thinning, and he has the expertise to minimize it’s appearance. My hair does weird things with heat and humidity, and he does a better job of managing that, by far, than any barber I’ve ever had in my life. He does an excellent job with those two issues, I don’t feel self-conscious about it in my daily life, something that wasn’t the case before, and all without some absurd combover. Another note I’d make is his haircuts tend to last, in terms of looking good past the point of where I should really be getting my haircut again. Which, as I’ve gotten busier in my professional life, I’ve been able to appreciate, in addition to his weekend availability. I attribute that to getting the ratios right, as particularly with my hair type, and the fact it’s thinned out over the years I am surprised it’s still fine out to a point. In fact on my last visit, I had him leave it a bit longer, because I thought it looked good still well after my original cut.
