I went here to have my hair done for my wedding. Melissa did an amazing job! I would definitely recommend her for anyone wanting to have a formal hairstyle done. I found Salon West through the online reviews – haven’t had great luck with many places in Ames, and have been putting off getting a cut. I called in for a next day appointment, and the owner, Barb, was able to fit me in. She was fantastic! Talked to me about what I wanted, listened to what I was asking for, pulled up some pictures to have a visual, discussed the texture of my hair, how I styled it typically, and talked me through lengths. She’d ask my input as she moved through the process, ensuring I knew what was happening. And she was wonderful to speak to as well!

Got the wrong color. Asked for highlights lowlights and even showed the colors. Got ALL blonde. Told her was completely not right and again showed the colors I wanted. Then she tried to fix it which made it 3 times worse. Still didn’t get the color I wanted. When I got home noticed that she left some long layers in the back and said she must not have pulled it out from the cape! The positive in all of this…if you can imagine there would be..was that she kindly refunded my money for the color and apologized.
