Salon Onyx

Critical: ProfessionalismI really wanted to love this salon. Amy (owner) did hair for my best friend’s wedding and saved me from an up-do crisis. That was a amazing. What wasn’t so great is when I went to the salon for cut and dye services. I was talked into what was referred to as a “baby Brazilian blowout” that would last for a few weeks, that used a similar product to the licensed Brazilian straightening product. My hair is very wavy and Amy felt confident that all my frizz issues would disappear and that I would be so impressed with the results and my hair would feel so healthy that I would want the full blowout. (I should mention that I swore off heat for two years prior and that my long hair was in excellent health.) Amy told me that the chemicals were a new Kevin Murphy product she was trying out.After the results wore off 3 weeks later, my hair became completely impossible to manage. When wet, my hair would tangle so intensely that I would spend 30 minutes of my shower just trying to detangle. The hair stands had changed. They became stretchy and plastic feeling, like artificial hair on a doll. (If you have ever washed your Barbie’s hair, you know exactly what I’m talking about.) What’s weird is that my hair did not split, but you could visibly see weak spots in the strands where a slight tug would cause it to break off. A lot broke off.To be honest, it has taken be several months before I could write this review as I needed to be in a good place to do so. Die the first time in my life before the treatment, I had hair down to my butt that was fairly healthy. After struggling with plastic hair for months, I had to cut it, which I did to my shoulders as that was as short as I would go. I really do need to go shorter to remove all damage. Because I still have damage, I am not a candidate for any hair color services. I worked for about 5 years to grow my hair out and all that work is now gone with a chemical treatment I was talked into.When I told my friends who still patronize Salon Onyx, they are surprised that Brazilian straightening treatments were recommended for my baby fine hair. They admit that Amy is a wizard with dye and if blonde is what you want to achieve she is your gal. Positive: Cleanliness, Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, ValueI have been seeing Amy for years – longer than I’ve ever seen anyone. She cuts and colors my hair. She is very consistent and is never hesitant to try something new. She is great at understanding what I’m describing. I’ve been to stylists who seem bored when your style isn’t changing and they get a bit sloppy. I’ve never felt that way with Amy. She really wants you to get what you are looking for, but she will also be honest and tell you why your hair might not look just like the picture so you can make an informed decision. I have been seeing Amy for years – longer than I’ve ever seen anyone. She cuts and colors my hair. She is very consistent and is never hesitant to try something new. She is great at understanding what I’m describing. I’ve been to stylists who seem bored when your style isn’t changing and they get a bit sloppy. I’ve never felt that way with Amy. She really wants you to get what you are looking for, but she will also be honest and tell you why your hair might not look just like the picture so you can make an informed decision. She is a great hair stylist in every way!

Positive: Cleanliness, Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, ValueI had the best salon experience here, I walked in with purple/pink hair that had been bleached and colored multiple times at home and they managed to get it out and give me a beautiful blonde color all over even with the dyed black roots! They are amazing, so friendly, everything is clean and very pretty, I highly suggest them the work I had done and saw on others was worth every penny! I had the best salon experience here, I walked in with purple/pink hair that had been bleached and colored multiple times at home and they managed to get it out and give me a beautiful blonde color all over even with the dyed black roots! They are amazing, so friendly, everything is clean and very pretty, I highly suggest them the work I had done and saw on others was worth every penny!
