Critical: ValueBooking was an issue to begin with. I should have took that as a sign. The daughter is inexperienced and could probably do well with really coarse hair. I have a decent grade of hair and locd for over 3yrs and she told me I needed to do interlock instead. Not to mention the wash portion nearly took my head off. She uses no product for the retwist and adds some oil at the end. I wasted $85, my retwist typically last 5/6 weeks. This lasted almost 2 weeks. Booking was an issue to begin with. I should have took that as a sign. The daughter is inexperienced and could probably do well with really coarse hair. I have a decent grade of hair and locd for over 3yrs and she told me I needed to do interlock instead. Not to mention the wash portion nearly took my head off. Critical: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, ValueSala came highly recommended by my close friend. First visit we booked right after my friends appointment to make the introduction. My friend had shown Sala pictures of my son’s locs and had discussed what my son wanted done. When we got to our first appointment suddenly his locs were not a child’s re-twist and she explained why, because there were small and there are so many. Ok, fine $80 instead of $55, I got it, no complaints. The style she did for my son was amazing, he walked out of there feeling like a king.At the first appointment Sala discussed what should be done at his next appointment. Interlock him (so he can just be a boy), twist and she agreed that his hair was healthy enough for bleaching the tips like he wanted. Sala gave me very specific instructions of how to book our next appointment in 3 weeks. Two separate appointments in the Vargo app and come in 2 hours early but text her the day before reminding her.Great, done, did as instructed. I didn’t think much about the fact that she didn’t respond to my text the day before his next appointment.When we arrived for his next appointment two hours early the salon was full. She seemed irritated that we were there. She doesn’t do walk ins so she allowed for the books to pile up like that. Asked what my son was having done, I remaindered her. Finally her daughters remaindered her of our appointment and that the one daughter acknowledged that she had read my text message. Then I was questions about my son’s age (he’s almost 11) and said “I agreed to bleach his hair?” I replied yes. The one gal that was speaking up for us said “I can start his color” For social distancing I asked it was ok if I stepped out and waited in the car to make room and her daughters told me that was fine. I checked in on him every 30-40min to make sure he was behaving himself.Things went south when I checked in on my son the second time. Sala had him in her chair (bleaching done) and she was palm rolling him. She implied I had somehow miscommunicated with her. I was polite, courteous and said no, I did not miscommunicate. She again had forgotten what we booked and was there for in the first place. By this point she was half way done with the re-twist. I politely kept my mouth shut and asked how much I owed her. $55 for the color and $65 for the re-twist. Paid the $120, asked how much longer it would take she said another 30min. I returned to my car. Then my phone rang and it was Sala, telling me that she could still interlock him but it would just be a few more hours till she could get to it. I told her “It is what it is. Just finish him up.” By this point I had already made my mind up that I was not bringing my son back to her. Her unprofessional behavior in the beginning and under her breath comments I had enough. Then I learned that my sons hair was not being put into a protective style. So not being interlocked and not styled… this $120 and 6 hours was basically a total waste.My biggest mistake I did not check how the bleaching turned out. He was in clips when I saw him under the dryer and after they were removed we left. Honestly, if the bleaching job had been done correctly I would not have bothered with this review. I was shocked to see some locs that were not bleached at all, some that barely had any bleach. It was not consistent. Sala saw how the locs looked when she was palm rolling and to her it was acceptable. I sent Sala a text message explained how disappointed I was in the experience we had and the results of the bleaching and requested a partial refund. She refused and instead wants me to bring him back? That’s simply not happening. I live an hour away. Not an option. Partial refund because the job that was not done correctly. I would have been happy with just half of the bleach charge refunded, something! Nothing offered.I have since had someone else fix the botched bleach job. Do not pay before the services are completed.
