Went in for a consultation about coloring my hair. I have black hair that’s been bleached to brown and wanted to eventually get to a light lilac color. Going in I knew I wasn’t going to get it on a first appointment. As soon as I sat down and took my hair down, the hair stylist said “yeah no.” That immediately made me want to put my hair back up. Her first reason was that my hair was too long. I didn’t realize the length of my hair had anything to do with its ability to be dyed. She then said it was too dark. Again, I knew it would take multiple sessions to lighten my hair, however she just kept saying that “it would take so many sessions and even then it probably wouldn’t end up that color.” She then told me “that color would probably never be possible for my hair.” Meanwhile I’m showing multiple reference pictures on girls that had the same kind of hair has me, asian black hair, who were able to achieve that color. It was obvious she just didn’t want to do my hair. I went in there for a possible price estimate and maybe a number of sessions it might take but she just told me it wouldn’t be possible on my hair. I was only in there for 3 minutes because the entire interaction was unhelpful. I was also upset to find that a client on their Instagram page who had dark brown hair was able to get to a very light and vibrant pink. So it was upsetting to find out that that amount of lightening was possible for someone else and not me.

I confirmed and showed up on time for my first appointment. I walked in, looked at some products, sat down for 10 minutes and left. I was there a total of 15 minutes and was never acknowledged by anyone. However, after I walked out I did notice that someone got up and made sure to close the door after me.
