Positive: Communication, Professionalism, QualityInitially I tolerated back surgery (3/11/20), but after two weeks I found stairs becoming harder rather than easier. But by that time we were quarantined so connected with my physicians via telehealth. As symptoms increased in quantity I played round after round of Medical Whack-a-Mole. Hematologist: whack/miss! Neurologist: whack/miss! Dermatologist: whack/miss! Nephrologist: whack/missed again! When I saw my orthopedic surgeon for annual knee injections he told me I needed to see one. More. Ologist; Dr. Bruce Henry Rank, a brilliant and experiencedThoracic and Cardiothoracic Vascular Surgeon. On 10 July I slowly and laboriously worked my way to Rejuvenate armed with a mask, a walking stick, and a concussion severe enough to significantly adversely affect my cognitive skills. Margaret quickly and enthusiastically welcomed us to the office and practice and in short order competently handed me over to Elizabeth, Dr. Rank’s medical assistant. I feel very comfortable meandering in the medical community, but will admit to becoming annoyed when asked the same questions over and over. Somehow Elizabeth adeptly and efficiently guided me through the intake process faster than anyone ever had before! She didn’t gloss over areas, but unlike every other person before her, didn’t ask me questions when/if the information was already in the computer at which she worked. As a result Elizabeth was free to focus on her remaining tasks, like obtaining vitals and taking compression sock measurements. When offered a compliment Elizabeth brushed it over saying that it was her job to make things easy for me!The smooth machine that is Rejuvenate continued to glide along and almost immediately after Elizabeth left the exam room, Dr. Rank entered. Dr. Rank presented as a brilliant and professional man, who was very social and willing to talk to us in a genuine, respectful, and authentic manner regardless of whether we were on- or off-topic.Given my lengthy and ever increasingly complicated medical status, I’ve found that taking along a freshly updated document that contains the dx I carry, rx that I take, and surgeries that I’ve had helps facilitate appointments. Unfortunately, as Murphy’s Law would coldly dictate, my computer crashed at the same time I did and my concussed brain found it nearly impossible to navigate the new computer or LibreOffice. My problem-solving skills were almost nonexistent but insomnia offered me the gift of time to work on that document all night long. Nevertheless, later I’d be embarrassed when I realized how elementary and flawed the finished product was. However, one would never have guessed it was inferior from Dr. Rank’s response. He eagerly accepted the proffered documents and devoured thoroughly, teasing out all of the pertinent data! Better yet, when he ordered tests to prove/disprove his working theory, the ultrasounds were conveniently conducted in the office by Dan, yet another pleasant and competent team member.Dr. Rank had already earned our respect and trust, so we weren’t surprised to learn that the tests confirmed his hypothesis and that I needed surgery to facilitate the blood’s return trip back up to my heart. On 5 October while wide awake and perfectly at ease I watched as Dr. Rank inserted catheters and expertly threaded bilateral stents into position. Immediately after surgery testing proved that the blood flow had increased significantly, and by the next morning my legs already looked remarkably trimmer! Yesterday Dan conducted my three-month post-op ultrasound but I already know that the results will show continued improvement.I’m sure that Dr. Bruce Henry Rank joins me in hoping that won’t need surgical intervention, but if you do please choose to be under his care!p.s. He conveniently sells colorful, competitively priced compression socks in his office. Thanks again, Dr. Rank! I’ll forever be grateful to you, your team, and the orthopaedic surgeon that sent me your way! See you in three more months!Initially I tolerated back surgery (3/11/20), but after two weeks I found stairs becoming harder rather than easier.
