Gary’s is the quintessential example of the original small town Barber shop, where along with a great haircut, you get all the news in town. 3 chairs all filled with excellent barbers including the owner Gary on Saturdays. There may be a bit of a wait since there is a good clientele. If you’re not in a hurry this is a great place to stop. The history on the walls is unique to the rich past of Chelsea Michigan and you will hear some great stories about them if you ask.

Superlative barbering. Helpful in many ways even beyond the barber chair. One time I needed help in obtaining the proper clippers to use for of my developmentally disabled adult son’s extremely thick beard. Gary got out a barber’s catalog and showed me his recommendations but then called the distributor on the telephone to ask for more information about some of the clippers. He ordered the clippers for me and I picked them up at the barbershop.

My son has sensory processing disorder and the first time we went there Gary took an hour with him cutting his hair on and off whenever my son needed a break. He let him turn the clippers on and off (which my son wouldn’t let him use until about the 5th time going) and play with the brush that gets the itchy hairs off. We have also been with a few of the others and he has felt comfortable letting them cut his hair. Sometimes he still refuses the clippers and just has to have a scissor cut and they always take the time needed with him which I appreciate so very much. He no longer has horrible anxiety when we say he has to get his hair cut. They are amazing people and Gary will always have our business.
