This is what a $160 perm that was supposed to be $140 looked like immediately after Pearl removed the rods today. I asked for well-defined curls but not a poodle perm. I told her I have hard-to-curl hair. She didn’t ask me what size rods I wanted, based on prior perms; she chose and told me it would be fine. She batted my hand away from my head when I reached up to touch the back. She let it process for barely 20 minutes without any heat and left the neutralizer on for only 3 minutes. She also didn’t let me see the “test” curl, which she checked at the sink as she had the water running to rinse me out.

I have been with pearl for years, she is truly an artist but today was shocking. When I called to schedule I told her what I wanted. I went in today again stating what I wanted. Pearl did not honor my request and did what she wanted. I am very disappointed. I paid the price plus tip and expressed my disappointment tactfully still charged the expense with no offer to repair. I just wanted to leave before I became angry and did so. I will not return or give a good review

Definitely the best women’s haircut in Los Alamos, though I’m not sure there’s really much competition on that front. I have had a hard time finding a good salon since moving here from the Kansas City area and I am satisfied with Pearl’s salon. Pearl does do a good job and has options for hair products she uses, such as organic or sensitive options. She’s also the first hair dresser I’ve encountered who actually advises her clients to eat healthy and exercise over buying some product, as that strategy makes your hair healthy and healthy hair is beautiful hair, independent of what style you choose. I’m definitely on board with that philosophy and it’s refreshing to have a hairdresser who isn’t trying to push some super expensive bottle of serum that probably doesn’t work on me!
