Critical: CommunicationTook my girlfriend in for a couple’s massage for her birthday. We got a deal on Groupon which was $241 for both of us (including gratuity). As someone who works in the service industry, I have no problem with included gratuity as long as it’s communicated to me ahead of time. My issue is that, during my massage, I was asked “is this pressure okay?” to which I responded “you can go a bit harder actually” and, to my surprise, was then charged extra for a “deep tissue massage” when it came time to pay. At no point did I ask for a deep tissue massage, at no point was that phrase used and at no point was I told I was going to be charged extra. I didn’t say anything at the time because it was my lady’s birthday and I didn’t want to make an awkward scene (and, honestly, it’s $16… it’s not gonna break me). It’s the principle of the thing though. My point is simply this- Napa is expensive. People like us save up and come here to enjoy quality products and services. People should feel like they can come here and not risk being tricked into throwing their money away. Enjoyed our massages, but felt tricked and manipulated and will not be returning, unfortunately. Took my girlfriend in for a couple’s massage for her birthday. We got a deal on Groupon which was $241 for both of us (including gratuity). As someone who works in the service industry, I have no problem with included gratuity as long as it’s communicated to me ahead of time.
