The folks we interacted with at Modern Vintage were very professional and pleasant, also the studio was very clean. My friend and I were walk-ins for a small tattoo (black line work)- we were tattooed by the apprentice (which we did not find out until half way thru my tattoo). The apprentice was very sweet, and his set up was both sterile and clean, however the tattoos are absolutely awful. Both are so bad its almost comical, poor guy could not draw a straight line. We are veteran tattoo folks, and honest we knew the risk of a fun walk in tattoo (spur of the moment type) However still after 2 months, the tattoo is still not healing properly and the skin is raised significantly. I was hesitant in writing a post, because overall the experience itself was great, but the tattoo again is the worst either of us have on our body. I just wish it was communicated that the artist was an apprentice, with less than a year experience and probably should allow some more practice before tattooing clients. Also- they still charged us $100 each which, again we knew was absolutely ridiculous (our tattoos are about the size of a half dollar coin) but figured it was their walk in rate for an actual seasoned artist, not an apprentice. If the apprentice sees this review, please don’t be discouraged, maybe just warn people you are still new prior to tattooing them.

I have absolutely nothing but the highest of praise to say about Modern Vintage. I’ve gotten a tattoo done by both artists and each time it has been by far my best tattoo experience. Both David & Shayne do amazing work, they listen to your ideas and work with you every step of the way, and are incredibly friendly. Clean, spacious shop, overall very professional environment. They are great about scheduling too and I’ve never had to wait months for an appointment as is the case with some other places. The pricing here is so low for the quality of work they do it should be criminal. Get a tattoo at Modern Vintage and I promise you won’t regret it.

Shayne Carroll is an amazing artist! I’m not going to lie, I chose him because we have the same name, but I’ve gotten 3 tattoo’s from him, and each time I just sent him a little doodle of what I kinda wanted and a he turned it into a beautiful tattoo. There’s very fine line work and immense detail in shading. The shop has a very good atmosphere and is very friendly.
