James and Sarah are both very capable and creative stylists. Their salon may only be a year old, but they’re both very experienced, talented, and well known in WNY. This salon is their dream come true, built on years of hard work. I’ve had fantasy color work (dye) done for years by Sarah, and she always protects my hair, ensuring that it remains both vibrant and healthy, despite how many colors I insist on trying. She uses high quality products and appropriate techniques. James is a super talented stylist and artist, you can see his work all over the salon. They’re both super down to earth, welcoming, and warm. I love getting my hair done, but usually hate that fancy salon attitude, hence why MJ Rose is perfect for me, the best quality without the stuffy vibe.

Critical: QualityI came in for a balayage and the whole under layer of my hair was entirely fried off. I also had about 6 inches cut from my hair when I just wanted a small trim, I assume because that was also fried off after it was lightened. I assumed the bleach was left on too long probably because there was only one working sink and when my stylist went to rinse my hair the other stylist insisted her client had to go first. It’s been about 6 months and I have had a ton of the lightened hair break off so my hair is super thin on the bottoms. I have been seeing Sarah for a while now for cuts, but recently decided to color my hair for the first time and she did the most amazing job. Sarah and James are two incredibly kind and talented stylists. This husband and wife duo is unbelievably awesome at what they do. Their space is as bright and welcoming as they are as individuals. I am always thrilled with my cut; transforming you into what you envision. I first found Sarah three-ish years ago when she was with the Crown team full time. Sarah is the BEST! I have incredibly thick wavy-ish hair and I’ve struggled to find stylists that knows how to cut my type of hair so I doesn’t look bulky and every cut Sarah has done is perfection. As for color it always comes out so natural and shiny and if you’re a blonde and you’re not seeing Sarah for your color you’re doing it wrong. I’ve gotten up-charged at several salons for “extra color” and Sarah has happily mixed two and sometimes three batches of color, she’s a perfectionist and I love her for it. I really could go on but I want to say I don’t just go there because it’s a small family owned business (even though it is), I don’t just to there because it’s in an awesome location (even though it is) and I don’t even go there for the amazing soundtrack (even though they always have incredible music playing) I go there because Sarah is an actual artist and is legitimately the most skilled stylist and colorist to ever work on my hair.

James Hickey has earned every bit of his iconic reputation. Before I started going to him a few years ago, I would hear friends and acquaintances say that they would never let anyone else touch their hair, and now I understand why. His cuts and color are consistently flawless. He is attentive, professional and personable. His wife, Sarah, is also lovely and incredibly talented. It’s about time these two had their own place!
