I scheduled an appointment to get my braids touched up for 4pm. As my braider was still working on the previous client she said to start taking down part of my hair. She then came over to give me “helpful” hints on how to take it down. I understand that appointments sometime run over but I waited 3 hours before she began to braid my hair.

They are very professional and do a great good. Their prices are fair and consistent, they don’t overcharge . Also I get the braids I request without someone trting to talk me into getting box braids like other salons, I’m a micro braid girl

I came in from out of town and desperately needed my and my daughter’s hair done. I found Mercy’s close to the hotel I was staying in. I called and was able get an appointment that day. I think the woman who did our hair was new to the salon because of the instructions she was being given but she was polite and did a really good job. I wanted crochet dreads but I have traction alopecia around my edges so I was worried she wouldn’t be able to do it but she did and covered the bald spots! My only critique is my daughter and I both have natural hair and She didn’t know how to correctly handle our hair. Other than that my experience was very satisfactory. I’d definitely recommend.

Critical: ProfessionalismI am just now leaving the shop and am completely caught off guard. I have had my hair braided there 3 times before and had a wonderful experience. Mercy herself has never been my stylist though. My appointment was for 11am and when I arrived there was another client waiting for her as well. He was to be taken first. I expressed to Mercy that if she had only called to tell me that I would have saved money on daycare by dropping my baby off later. She wasn’t exactly nice about my comment. I waited as I really needed my hair done. An hour and a half later as I go to get in the chair I asked her for a table to put my drink on. She said they were all being used. She had 4 storage bins that were the right height for me to use. She told me to just hold my cup. That was all in retaliation for my saying it was inconsiderate of her to not tell me that she had double booked. Then she proceeded to tell me that when you go to a stylist you aren’t guaranteed an appointment time. Well if you go an unprofessional salon that’s what happens. I don’t give my business to unprofessional establishments. I admire the artistry of the African braiders but I find most of their attitudes in business extremely harsh and entitled. I will not kiss $@& to get my hair braided. I don’t believe I was being the least bit unreasonable. I didn’t ask for a discount. I didn’t yell at her. I pointed out an act of unprofessionalism. If you don’t want to hear about your unprofessional acts don’t commit them.Edit: It should speak volumes that she refuses to accept valid criticisms. Most businesses that receives bad reviewers reach out to the customer to resolve the issue. She would rather leave a nasty remark. Positive: Quality, ValueI called ahead and asked if they had time to Braid my hair 30 min prior to close. I was a little anxious cause I’m a white guy in our US 2020 political climate walking into a shop called African hair braiding. They made me feel right at home, very welcoming energy, they speak French to each other the whole time (and English to me) and even though I didn’t understand a word besides bonjour and oiu, I just loved their energy. I would recommend them to anyone, they did an awesome job. Also stayed for an hour and 15 after close to finish my hair. Thank you for everything you are blessed ❤️.I called ahead and asked if they had time to Braid my hair 30 min prior to close. Normally Mercy African braiding salon is a great place to get your hair braided. Typically they are on time, fast and friendly. When I went to get my hair braided today everything was the complete opposite of professional. I had an appointment scheduled for 9am, no one was there. I called the number listed for this location and was told someone would be there in 5mins. A braider arrived, but not my braider. I waited 30mins as the braider that was there called to see who was scheduled to braid. The braider finally arrived over a hour later complaining about the fact that she was the only braider the day prior. No discounts for the inconvenience were offered nor was an apology. Very unprofessional and bad business.

After I posted my review below, the owner called my personal phone number at 8:48pm Friday 3/6, yelling at me about the review. Telling me what words I should use in response to her yelling at me. She said she was nice to me and told me to return in 2 days, if the loops did not close. I didn’t wait to pay her two days after my hair was braided. The issue isn’t about being nice, it’s about an expected service for pay. I wasn’t done a favor. I paid to have microbraids, which includes knitting the hair. I didn’t pay $200 to be placated, treated nicely or to take more time from day to have a service redone. She also forgot that she is licensed by the Cosmetology Board; i confirmed the shops licensing information. I didn’t visit her house for a service. I went to a place of business. The moral is: if you want positive reviews, perform stellar work at all times. You are not entitled to money. This is business not personal. Do not think of calling my home ever again!!!
