Massage Envy

Critical: Communication, ProfessionalismVERY painful and uncomfortable to me. I don’t know the name of the guy who did my massage, but don’t go to him! (He had a name that I thought sounded like a woman’s name.) He’s at the West Jordan site.I told him all the places on my back that I had trouble with- namely under the shoulder blade, my shoulders, and down alongside the spine. Instead of focusing on the places that I had knots in, he focused on strange areas that didn’t have lots of muscle and had no knots (like my waist, under my armpit, and my neck). This is partially my fault because I never told him to stop and I have been known for being too shy and polite, but I would think that a masseuse would know their anatomy better and would have been trained with better knowledge. He pushed SO hard on areas, it was so painful. I felt his nails scratch me because they were too long. He pushed on my neck in a way that pushed down on my airway, making it hard to breathe for a few moments, he pushed hard on nerves and arteries in my neck that made a painful tingling sensation, and he held lots of pressure on my collarbone which was very painful. I would think a masseuse would know better when their client was in pain (and the bad type) and know to adjust and know to focus on the areas that actually seemed tight and knotted. Again, this is partially my fault for not having enough courage to say something to him when it was happening.I have had a good number of professional massages, and I have never experienced this type of pain and uncomfortableness and inexperience on the masseuse’s part. I am pretty familiar with the routine of the 60 min massage and he did not follow it at all, which isn’t necessarily an issue, but it is when he does things that make me uncomfortable like wildly shake my head around, making my chest jiggle. I was very aware how thin the sheets were and how exposed I was and felt very uncomfortable with the moves he was doing (of which I have never encountered with another massage therapist). I know I could have requested a female masseuse, but I thought I had because of the nature of his name and the receptionists never used pronouns when setting up the appointment.VERY painful and uncomfortable to me.
