I’ve been going to Lydia’s for more than a decade. They are very kind, professional and family oriented. The only drawback is them over-booking clients (a common practice in salons) so plan to be there a while if it’s a popular time of the year! Otherwise, great service.

I had a 10:00 appointment sat there until 11:30 until someone asked to see the picture of how I wanted my hair. She said come back in one hour. One hour really??? After sitting and waiting to hear from someone. Ended up going to sisters hair braiding across the street who took me right away. Btw Lydia’s is also over priced on a lot of hair styles

Critical: Professionalism, Punctuality, QualityLong story shortish….I went in for regular small/medium braids with triangle parts. I showed them a picture (OF THEIR OWN WORK ON MY HEAD) and afterwards I paid and left (without looking in the mirror, which I accept full responsibility for). I caught a glimpse of my hair in my rearview mirror and saw JUMBO BRAIDS and called them back to tell them I wasn’t happy with my hair. She told me my hair was thick and short in the back and that’s why she has to make them bigger. Mind you, I was just there 3 months before and this was not an issue. The next day I called again to see what they could do about it and they said they could redo it but they would charge me…..I paid over $200 the first time. My aunt got on the phone and they ended up rescheduling me and saying I just needed to pay for the hair. Fine. I get there and the lady starts yelling at me telling me I should’ve already taken my hair down ( I didn’t because I didn’t trust that they would redo it) and saying they would have to charge a take down fee. Again, fine. She then starts yelling again saying the lady on the phone was not my mom but was in fact my sister…what?!?! I never said she was my mom…anyway I stayed silent so they could do my hair. Another lady came in and they started talking in another language and then she kept saying ” why you want small braids?! You hair is thick. THICK!”. At this point I’m beyond frustrated. I tell her I have had my hair done the way I like it…HERE at this salon! I asked if she would like to see the picture. She said no. They finished my hair and left me sitting on the chair. After a few minutes she says, “oh you’re done.” I pay the $25 take down and hair fee and leave. I’m never going back there again! Also side bar: the first time she was doing my hair, she stopped to preach at the 3 or 4 clients that were in the salon at the time and it really didn’t sit right with me. She kept saying gay people are an abomination and that if we turned our backs on God we were all going to hell….. I did not come to the salon for a sermon. ✌ Long story shortish….I went in for regular small/medium braids with triangle parts. I called just to make appointments but I didn’t like the way she talked to me and couldn’t be able to finish my conversation when she hung up the phone. So no I would not suggest anyone to call and make appointments leave alone to go period.

It’s not the most flattering place but it’s a family owned spot and all the beauticians have been there for at least the 3 years I have gone, which is nice. Bob braids turned out fantastic but the spring twist were not done right…she didn’t go with the twist pattern so the style ended up being poofy instead of laying down. That was my least favorite style done at Lydia’s. My crochet Senegalese twist looked good initially but don’t expect them to last more than a month. Next time I do a crochet style I am going to make sure the first 2 rows at least are individually braided or twisted so that it looks more appealing for a longer time and the rest if the head can be crocheted for faster style time. I’m a stay at home mother who does low activity…I couldn’t imagine getting a crochet style if I was an athlete or worked out on the regular. It wouldn’t last. Overall My concern is with my style choices not with the work of Lydias employees. They are kind, work fast, and are straight forward with the prices. They are in high demand over the summer months so make appointment! Any other time just call and most likely they’ll tell you to come right in which is great for women on the go. Go with your hair washed…it just makes the process faster.

Great place, Lydia is a sweet lady and the staff is always nice and friendly. It’s never overly crowded they do a great job of getting you in and out in a reasonable amount of time. I’ve been several times to get crochets and the hairstyles last.

Went today my daughter got crochet braids. I didn’t really like the first set of braids. They took them out. I changed the color. Everybody thought it looked good. The color really looks nice on her. Ms. Lydia is always so cheerful whenever I see her. I’ll be going back
