Exceptional service – silk press with no cut. Starina was professional yet personable and very knowledgeable about hair. I must say this was one of the best wash and blow outs. Starina thoroughly washed my hair and used a high end blow dryer that was cool yet efficient. She also flat ironed my hair resulting in beautiful and bouncy curls. In summary #TheStarinaExperience.

I received a silk press and my hair is damaged. I typically get a silk press once a year and this was my first time coming to this shop. My ends are curly and the middle shaft of my hair is completely straight. And this is for my entire head. Extremely disappointed and i’ve been natural for 4+ years. This has turned me off my straightening my hair and have to start over again. Please be careful because they use a lot of heat and damaged my hair.

I have a surgery coming up that will prevent me from washing my hair myself for a few weeks, so I decided to get a protective style. Before booking, I called several times to ask about getting medium knotless braids with Shakhari Artis, and about booking an add-on service. No one ever answers the phone, so I emailed my questions. After no reply to my email, booked online and put my questions in the appointment request and it confirmed for 9am today. I arrived at the salon 5 minutes early and waited in the parking area until 9am. At 9am I went to the door of the salon and it was closed, so I called and left a voicemail that I was here and waiting for my appointment. Few minutes later I checked again and it was still closed. The third time I came back to check was at 9:19, and I saw the lights on and a young lady sitting at the desk. She opened the door and said “ill be with you in a minute” as she was on a phone call so I sat down to wait. She ends the call, gets up and looks over to me while walking upstairs “you can follow me”. No introduction, no good morning, nothing. In fact I sensed a slight attitude from her and was confused why. I asked her if she was Shakari, since she didn’t introduce herself. She said yes. She started to wash my hair and informed me about a 15 minute late policy. I had to correct her and explain I was in fact early, which is probably why she was upset. She had not checked the phone messages to see that I called at 9:02. While washing my hair said she has a policy of hair being at least 3 to 4 inches long to do the braids. She repeats this while drying my hair so I went into the app and pulled up the service and showed her it did not have that indicated. She then said it must be an error that it was left out of the service description. She tried to do one braid on the short hair in the back but my hair was sticking out and I agreed that it didnt look good. At this point we both agree she cant do the style, I am in the chair crying because I have no other options to get my hair done in time for my surgery. I asked her if I could pay for the wash, and she charges me $50! After I begrudgingly pay, and seconds after I walk out the salon, Shakhari goes on the website and changes the description of the service to include that “natural hair needs to be 3-4 inches in length all around”. She was trying to cover her bases in case I posted a screenshot of the previous listing of the service. To put a customer through this and then have them pay so much for their mistake is beyond incredible. I took the day off from work to spend $50 for a wash I could have done it myself. I will NEVER visit this establishment again, even if they have talented hairstylists.

Don’t get me wrong Starrina is great at what she does. However I did not enjoy my service this time around. After waiting almost an hour to get attended to, and almost 40 minutes to be styled, I watched as atleast 4 people who came after me got attended and left before me. Even after prompting her twice I had an emergency she ignored me, and didn’t even apologize for not being able to finish styling my hair.

Star is amazing! My service is always spot on and exquisite! Star manages my unruly curly hair and gives me professional tips to ensure I am correctly taking care of it at home. She also has given me beautiful hydrating silk presses when I want to see my length! I cannot sing her praises any louder! Haircut, Curly hair, Braids, Hairstyling, Box Braids

After just a couple visits was happy with the silk presses but further inspection showed heat damage and loss of hair. As a professional you are expected to inform a client of the condition of their hair and offer a complimentary treatment(s) for mistakes made. Would not recommend.
