Social Profile:

Structural Medicine is an advanced form of bodywork that uses myofascial release, postural analysis, and movement re-education to restore proper alignment and function to a client’s body, relieving injuries, chronic pain, and movement dysfunctions. It bridges mainstream medicine’s well-established evaluation tools (strength, range-of-motion, postural assessment) with the latest scientific developments in alternative treatment therapies. The Feldenkrais method is a movement education system to develop self-knowledge and inner authority to expose inefficient habits. Whether you’re looking to reduce pain, recover from an injury or accident, or improve your balance, posture, athletic or artistic performance, you’ll benefit from this work.

My sessions with Joe Kelly have been great! I find the length of his session, the quality of his touch, his knowledge and years of experience make him an excellent (structural integration) therapist. I am a body worker and contra dancer and my health is crucial to the quality of my WORK and my LIFE!

I was referred to Joe by my chiropractor for some range of motion issues I was having with my shoulder. My first session with him was so good I signed up on the spot for a 12-package deal. Not only was Joe able to help my shoulder, in addition he also found some other areas of restricted motion and was able to work on them too.

Working with Joe is great. He’s professional, attentive and knowledgeable about the human body and how it functions. I went to see Joe about a wrist injury I sustained from rock climbing. In one session I was able to see significant improvement in my forearm mobility and it helped get me back to climbing without pain. As a personal trainer I feel confident I can refer clients to Joe and they will receive quality care that will make significant improvements in how they move and feel.

Joe does amazing work. He uses a systematic approach that is personalized based on your individual needs. His background combined with his intuition and deep knowledge of the body are quite powerful and healing. I have a low back injury from over 10 years ago as a result of my yoga practice and deep forward bending postures (while also being fairly flexible). Since the injury, my body compensated in less than optimal ways, slowly resulting in the removal of more and more movement and activities. I reached a point where it hurt to even sit or stand for too long. It felt like my muscles were tightening around me and it required more and more energy to get things done. I was recommended to see Joe from my chiropractor and I am so glad I did! I felt relief in our first session, and by the fourth session, I was moving my back and body in ways I haven’t in years. If you want to feel more freedom in your body, less pain and learn how to maintain it…go see Joe!!

Positive: CommunicationIf you’re in pain and don’t want to settle, go see Joe!I originally came to see Joe because I was having difficulty with body movement in my gardening, my back was becoming more rounded and rigid, and I was feeling stiffer. I work as a counselor, so I spend many hours sitting and talking with clients. Before being referred to Joe, I was referred for traditional Physical Therapy. I was previously an Occupational Therapist for 20 years, so I’m well versed in rehab programming. The Physical Therapy approach was very limited in terms of engaging my mind in the process. I received a set of exercises that just missed the mark. It wasn’t bad, but it missed the deeper postural underpinnings and left me wanting more. That is when I was referred to Joe by a work colleague. I was immediately impressed with Joe’s thoughtful, caring, and respectful demeanor. Joe’s work combines hands-on bodywork, neuromuscular and movement re-education. It’s a unique approach that worked to engage my mind and body in new ways that created a profound sense of connection and wholeness. I began to recognize areas of my body that went dormant or offline and started feeling more at home in my body again.I’ll share two significant benefits from my work with Joe.1. When I started working with Joe, I had a very stiff upper back that was progressively rounding farther and farther forward (Kyphosis). I couldn’t actually stand up straight anymore. However, through Joe’s unique combination of hands-on work and movement, I’m now standing fully upright.2. One of the really great joys that have come out of working with Joe is now I can move more freely, and I can play with my great-nieces. And they are just full of life and want to run and tumble, and it’s so much fun to be able to be goofy, tumble and play with them. I can do stuff with them that their grandparents and even their parents can’t do!I highly recommend Joe if you want to overcome your body aches and pains, want to feel more aligned, and don’t want to settle for less.If you’re in pain and don’t want to settle, go see Joe!I originally came to see Joe because I was having difficulty with body movement …More

Joe is amazing! I would highly recommend him to anyone who has/has had any sort of injury or chronic pain, or anyone who wants to improve their movement overall. He is attentive and offers personalized advice and strategies for improving movement and decreasing any pain or tightness in the body. I also appreciated how he explained anatomy and fascia in an easy to understand way during our session. I noticed results for jaw pain that had been going on for months after just one session. Highly recommend!!

Consider Joe Kelly for your healthcare needs–especially if you have long term, leftovers from injuries. Structural medicine is a whole body/holistic treatment. Joe knows and understands body mechanics so thoroughly. He works with muscles, fascia, ligaments, tendons, everything! to get things moving again. I don’t know how he finds those spots to release but he does!

Joe has learned some fantastic treatment techniques and helped me immensely with some persistent issues. He is a knowledgable and impassioned healer who is committed to educating his patients such that they can help themselves. He is adept at explaining what is going on anatomically and how certain movements relate to the body as a whole.

As an out of shape 49 year old, I started going to Joe when I was training to do a 3 week hike in the Himalayas. Joe is simply gifted! He assessed where my body was stuck and not moving correctly and worked on those tissues to help free up the movement. He uses a combination approach of many different modalities and training to help with movement. He also helps to educate you on correct body movement along the way. Are you sitting or walking correctly. The smallest changes have helped. I highly recommend Joe. He is truly gifted, kind and a pleasure to work with.

A friend of mine, who is well-versed in the types of bodywork available in Seattle and has worked with many bodyworkers for her own issues, recommended that I see Joe to help me with chronic issues with muscles spasms in my shoulders and neck that affect my ability to garden and sew. After just a couple of sessions I am really encouraged by Joe’s global approach to my overall posture and alignment and the work he is doing with ‘glued-together’ muscle tissues in my shoulders and neck. I am feeling looser from the hands-on work and the movement cues he teaches me are helping me to hold good posture between sessions. Joe received advanced training from a highly-respected, experienced local practitioner, Donna Bajelis- it feels to me that he has many ‘tricks in his bag’ because of the breadth and depth of this multi-disciplinary training – more than massage!
