My experience at Island Therapeutic was horrible. The entire staff were completely unprofessional, from the scheduling to the massage, to the tipping: start to finish. It took me an hour to schedule an appointment with the receptionist, calling back and forth, not being able to schedule for a particular location. I was told that I could use the groupon for two 90-minute massages instead of three 60-minute and that is was I scheduled for. When I arrived with my boyfriend (for his birthday, mind you, and first massage experience) they only scheduled us for 60-minute massages. The massage therapists seemed untrained and unprofessional. Two other therapists were talking LOUDLY behind a sheet (which was the only thing separating the rooms) about drugs and other inappropriate subject matter. They used cooking olive oil for the massage. Disgusting experience the entire way through. I asked to break a large bill so that I could tip them (out of custom, not that they deserved it) and no one could. The ‘good’ news that the receptionist reminded me of after all of their inadequacies and mistakes, I still have a 60-minute massage left to use at their location! Never going back there again, and never going to use the last of the Groupon deal that I paid well for. Lesson here kids: Do you research!

Would like to play a game of find-a-massage with Island Therapeutic? If so, start by calling the owner who never answers the phone, leave several messages and wait to be called back. Finally, schedule an appointment and proceed to East Lake Street location. Here you will see a scented body oil shop and a cafe that may or may not be selling khat. There aren’t any actual signs, but finally you figure out you are supposed to head up some rickety, nasty stairs. Now head into some ghetto apartment converted into a massage parlor. Your masseuse has no formal training, but it won’t matter because she doesn’t seem to care anyway. Proceed to a back room where an uncomfortable table is set up with duct taped foam padding and no real head rest. Now get naked and wait forever until masseuse decides to actually start the session. Relaxing music will not be played so don’t ask, also don’t ask about sexual services as several handwritten notes taped to the wall indicate this is not allowed. If this sounds like a massage experience you are interested in than begin by calling the owner today. Maybe you’ll get massage within a week or two? If you want a relaxing enjoyable experience go anywhere else, don’t support Island Therapeutic they shouldn’t even call themselves a business!

I love massages. I have had a few over the last few years, massages can be expensive. A family member referred me to Island Therapeutic Massage and had bought me a package of massages as a gift.

This was by far the worst massage experience of my life. Starting with the phone calls to booking the appointment, extremely unprofessional- here’s some examples of the phrases she said to me: “Hold on, I’m driving in my car and can’t talk on my cell phone, will you call me back?” I say, “Oh I must have the wrong number,” She says, “This is the manager at Island Therapeutic Massage, but I’m driving, call me back at a different time.” Then after having called 12 different times in 2 weeks to FINALLY get the exact appointment correct (because they had to reschedule and couldn’t remember what they scheduled me for EVERY time) I had my appt on the morning of my birthday. when I drove up and walked in, I thought this must be a joke, it was so gross and dark and run down. And the masseuse was telling me to hold on, she was on her cell phone because she needed to find daycare for her kids. And she smelled like a giant cigarette! GROSS! The masseuse did not stop TALKING! NOT ONCE!!!! I’m not kidding you. And she found out I lived in the same city as her and she asked if I could babysit her kids!!!!! I couldn’t wait for it to be over. And it was supposed to be a hot stone massage, no hot stones, but that was the least of my problems with this disgusting experience. So I absolutely would never recommend this place to anyone!! Not even if you’re desperate for a cheap massage.

I am 68 years old and a grandmother of 7. I have had massages in many places. The last year I have had chronic neck pain and tried OTC meds/ pain patches/ physical therapy. Nothing gave me relief.

My experience was definitely different than what has been said. They have stepped their game up a lot. I had my own private room (no curtains serving as a partition) relaxing music was played and saw no sign of cooking oil. My therapist knew exaclty what to do and hit all the right areas. I felt 100 times better when I left then when I came in. Yes I did have to leave a message but they called me back immediately and worked around my schedule to see me. I do reccommend giving them another try! The location that I went to is off of Woodlane drive NOT in minneapolis.

TERRIBLE and SCARY! I took my friend to their Minneapolis location and we spent most of the time wondering if we were going to be assaulted, killed or raped! The “rooms” were divided up by sheets (looked like a scene from Taken)!! My friend was groped and touched extremely inappropriately and I was actually bruised in more than one place after asking multiple times for her to lighten up on the pressure. My friend asked her “masseuse” where she graduated massage therapy school from and found out she never went!!! The massage tables were literally just tables with foam and fabric stapled to it and the massage oil was cocoa butter! STAY AWAY!!!!!!

These people are NOT lying!!!! Horrible experience. I even took the day of from my teaching job to enjoy my birthday relaxing followed by a massage. I never knew if I was going to make it out alive. I texted multiple people where I was and kept my phone on me and my things under the table so I could watch them. I was exposed many times during the transitions and when the masseuse left me for a while… I looked around and found out that I was being massaged with olive oil! She pressure hurt so bad that I told her to stop and I finally got up to leave. I asked then about schooling and she couldn’t come up with the name. I asked the receptionist who owned the place, how long, where they trained etc.. and the woman couldn’t answer. I RAN out of there crying. Stay FAR FAR AWAY! I called groupon and they refunded me (thank you) and will be calling the BBB to report this place. This company should not be in business.
