What I did know, is that I desperately needed a cut. I had passed by ‘I’m Sergio’ countless times while walking state street and had been thinking of giving it a try. I looked online for an appointment and found one. I’m very happy I did because my experience was outstanding. If you want to know WHY the experience was so great, keep reading …I booked with Chelsea. Despite booking just an hour before the appointment and catching her on the very last appointment of the night, just before closing, she couldn’t have been more welcoming. She was polite, energetic, and engaging; totally professional. She made me feel welcomed. This is so important – especially to a new customer – and often overlooked by so many businesses. First impressions can be the difference between and one-and-done visit, or a years long relationship with a business. And a big shout-out to the owner and all the staff. The salon was immaculately clean. Also has a nice, modern style; not at all like a typical barbershop (more on this below).Getting started, Chelsea asked me questions about what I wanted done and offered suggestions. I really appreciated that she asked ME questions, showing that she cared enough to take time to understand what I wanted, even at the end of the day. That type of engagement is exemplary of someone who truly cares about her craft and takes pride in making clients happy. She took her time with the cut (also really important!). There was no rush; clearly, doing a great job was her top priority. And that makes a new customer feel comfortable and confident that things will go well. Once she got to work, we had a nice conversation (again, engaging with the customer; so important!).When we were done, she asked me if I wanted to see the back. I could tell just by how it felt that I was going to like the cut, but, again, she demonstrated concern for my satisfaction. After taking a look, it was even better than I thought. I’m pretty fussy about the way the back gets cut; I hate the square, boxed look that so many barber shops, and even salons, leave you with. She nicely tapered and rounded the edges in back, and layered the sides so they comb back cleanly, even though my hair is still pretty long. Very simply, the best job cutting and shaping the back that I’ve ever had.To this point, on their website, they describe themselves as a barber shop/salon. The ‘barber shop’ part gave me pause; I’ve had some bad experiences in the past. But if you’re worried that they might only know how to do buzz cuts – running clippers through your hair like a snow plow – have no fear. I wanted to keep my hair fairly long, and I only wanted a cleanup and shaping. Chelsea did a complete scissor cut, and did it incredibly well. The next day I could just roll my fingers through my hair and it fell into place, which almost never happens (especially the day after). That’s a great cut. As this was my first visit, I can’t speak for all the staff, but if Chelsea is any indication, these ladies have some serious skills.Finally, I really liked that she washed my hair AFTER the cut; apparently this is their default procedure, and it’s a great idea (though they will wash it before cutting if you request). I really liked leaving the salon totally clean with no stray hair clippings on my clothes, or dropping from my head. It was nice being able to head straight out for a drink in downtown Media.Overall, just a great experience. Good to have a new go-to place for a cut. Thanks Chelsea!
