Critical: ProfessionalismEdit- this review is not a mistake. Google kept my review for several months and I finally edited it and it was approved. Once again, this review is not a mistake. I had a horrible experience here the end of 2021.——Horrible experience. I was a new client who made an appointment online. Not only did the stylist approve the appointment, she called and confirmed with me the day before.When I arrived, I overheard one stylist complaining at a loud volume about the excessive amount of clients making me feel uncomfortable. They then approached me and told me I should have made the appointment during the week so “I don’t have to wait here all day.” When I asked if it would take a long time to get seen, they laughed and said of course! They then yelled at me for not making a consultation even though the appointment was approved and I sent photos prior. I have made appointments with many stylists without a consultation. I was nothing but polite, yet they treated me in a disgusting manner for making an appointment that was APPROVED?None of the information they “Expected me” to know was available when I made an appointment. After the stylist continued demeaning me and lacked interest on doing my hair, I asked for a refund and walked out of the salon. The rudeness is inexcusable. Shameful!Gone are the days where we have to tolerate this from hair salons. You deserve better. You deserve good customer service and timely service. Stop supporting these salons that think they can treat people this way!Listen to the reviews. DO NOT GO HERE. No way to run a business. This has to be my worst experience with a hair salon. Being the fact that its a business that specializes in natural hair I went with excitement. And being so eager to start my new hair journey. But that was not that case I came on time for my appointment to see at least 4 people ahead of me. I introduce myself to the owner stating that I had an appointment and she send me to the back I sit there for 20 mins until she saw me to tell me that I have to comb my hair out, being that fact that she will be washing my hair and it will tangle again anyway (me knowing my hair texture). she says that its an up-charge to detangle my hair so hands me the supplies to do it myself. After I detangle my hair which only took 10 mins, she came back 25 mins later to finally wash my hair, claiming that if my hair was detangled she could have squeezed me in…..but I had an appt. by this time its already been two hours. long story short I ended up leaving at 7pm (6 hours later) without my hair done, with my hair dryer than it was when I went in, all because of the owner’s poor scheduling system. I tried to call this location before coming in due to the fact that my time is limited but there is no way of contacting the location, it goes straight to voicemail. After all of this the owner tried to charge me for a wash lol what ! you didn’t even do anything to my hair of benefit.

Ms. Marie’s workmanship is unparalleled. I had yarn faux locs put in for the first time ever. She took time to educate me on different styles and looks and help me select a style the best suited me. She also explained what kind of maintenance I needed to do to keep the yarn dreads looking fresh and clean. I loved the colors she selected and almost immediately; people were coming up to me randomly telling my hair was “giving them life!” I would recommend The house of roots to anyone looking for quality work from the loc specialist! Positive: Quality, ValueGlad that there was a walk in because I would not have been able to get my hair done for an event. I was traveling to the area and called several places but they were all booked especially with it being the weekend before the holidays. While it was a long wait, it was well worth it! Marie, the owner, provided great service, styled my hair beautifully and took her time to make sure that each strand was pinned and curled. She’s highly skilled, creative, and passionate about her work! I was traveling to the area and called several places but they were all booked especially with it being the weekend before the holidays. While it was a long wait, it was well worth it! The owner allows clients to not wear masks nor do her employers wear any masks. I kindly requested that she does and she said it would hold her back and slow her down. I kept repeating how I’m not trying to offend anyone. She didn’t respond and she didn’t put on a mask.. She also tried to have another client be in a room with me without a mask and I was very uncomfortable so she had the client wait in a different room but no masks were put on. She washed my hair but for the most part I was sitting in a room by myself while she worked on another clients hair. Even though I made an appointment. I personally should not have stayed as long as I did because it just wasn’t safe at all but I didn’t want to walk out as I’ve never walked out of a salon before. I had to ask for the seats to be wiped down because I was directed to a blow dryer where the previous client sat with no mask. At the end of the day I paid $40 + a $13 deposit fee. 25 for a wash, $10 for my hair to be combed and and $5 treatment. This all took about 10minutes and the rest of the time I was just sitting. So I feel I’ve wasted time, lost my money and most importantly jeopardized my safety and my families. I finally arrive and the owner says “oh that was you calling? We don’t answer after 5pm” even though, my appointment was at 5:30…So I go sit in the back of this unclean establishment and there is a client ahead of me waiting for a retwist. The owner made a lot of slick, rude comments about my hair. The owner begins to detangle my hair an HOUR later and informs me that she has to up-charge me $25 when she gets to the last section of my hair. I ask her if there is a discount for her “starting an hour late”, and of course, she doesn’t answer that one…She then comes back and tries to tell me it is more money to get a braid down for a wig. I ask her why and she claims it’s because I have long hair. Although, a wig braid down is not braiding past the shoulders (extra work) it’s just simply tucking the braid. I found this pit online and after reading the bad reviews, I still decided to give them a try. I had a 6:30pm appointment today and got a call around 4:45pm asking if I wanted to come in early. I said I would be there at 5:30pm and got there at 5:40pm. After 10 mins of waiting I got my hair washed and was told to have a seat. By this time it was about 6:15pm. As I sat, MC Styles who I had a scheduled appointment with was combing out a young lady’s hair. The other stylist Monique who had washed my hair proceeded to start a retwist for a young man who was placed in her chair during the time she was washing my hair. At about 6:40pm, I asked Monique if she was the one doing my hair and if I had to wait for her to be done with the young man in her chair, she answered yes to both questions. I sat for another 15 minutes by this time annoyed that I had made an appointment then asked to come in earlier and was expected to wait way past my original appointment time. At 7pm, I asked Monique, what was the point of making an appointment when it was obviously not being honored. At that question she decided to call MC Styles who is now in the back serving her walk in client. MC Styles proceeded to let me know that if I can’t wait then I can reschedule for another time. I advised her that my locs were already washed and I am sitting with a wet head of hair. About 10 minutes later MC Styles emerged from the back and decided that she would oblige me and do my hair. As I sat there I could tell based on her questioning that she was annoyed and upset. I commented to her that despite the bad reviews, I decided to come anyway. This really got under her skin because she repeated it to Monique multiple times during my sitting. She roughed up my head and had an attitude all throughout my sitting. I wouldn’t understand unless I was in her shoes. At this point I had to ask her if me being annoyed and upset was unwarranted. She proceeded to tell me that they were busy today with walk-ins and the young lady was doing box braids. Totally unprofessional and uncouth. With disdain in her voice she offered to refer me someplace else for future hair needs but I declined because I believe you are the company you keep. Worst experience ever and I definitely agree with MC Styles, I need to take my business elsewhere. My minimal standards and expectations for customer service were way too much for this snake pit. Beware of their prices, they charged me $84 plus $11 deposit for a palm roll retwist, price online was $65. I opted not to have my hair styled, think I had enough of their disgusting behavior. Take your business elsewhere if good customer service and professionalism is a minimum standard.
