Positive: Communication, Professionalism, QualityWe had a fabulous experience at Hoola Spa. The staff was friendly and professional. The facility was top notch and very inviting. We had a deep tissue massage with hot stones and a scalp massage. Both of our therapists were fantastic. Having had many massages at many spas over the last thirty years, the Hoola Spa is one of the very best. Critical: Communication, ProfessionalismDO NOT DO NOT buy gift cards for this spa! Bought a gift card just prior to Covid in February of ‘20, finally got around to making it to Hawaii April ‘21, stayed in the same resort that the spa is located, they didn’t answer their phone or door (it was locked) for the entire 5 days we stayed there, so my wife was unable to use a $400 gift card that I’d gotten her for her Birthday. Now they’ve spent the last 6 months avoiding my calls and messages to get a refund. I get it that Covid screwed everything up, but now that they’re supposedly open, they should refund my $ since I was unable to use the gift card and we have no plans to return to Hawaii. Basically theft in my opinion.DO NOT DO NOT buy gift cards for this spa! My husband and I had the 60 minute couple’s massage. The massage was just what we needed after a few active days in Hawaii. The massage had great pressure and the room was relaxing. They wrapped our feet in warm towels halfway through, which was a nice touch. The room has spa music playing and a waterfall sound in the background. Very enjoyable.

My husband and I had a wonderful experience! We both got deep lomi lomi massages and they were some of the best we’ve ever had hands down! Five stars for Adrian and Heidi! Heidi was my massage therapist and truly has healing hands. Thank you so much!

The massage was very nice, but the place needs some updating. There is a loud salt machine that runs while you are having a massage and you can hear it the entire time. My robe had multiple rips on it, it’s supposed to be a nice plush robe and the thing was ripped in the front and the back. The amenities for the shower were not well maintained. The massage is good, but if you are looking for all the frills that you are paying for, I would go somewhere else.

Front staff and management are great BUT the ambiance and quality does not match the price tag. I’ve had massages all around the world in 5 star hotels that charge the same rates but the Hoola Spa is more like a 2 star “spa”. Not exactly sure why they even call it a spa. Pretty disappointed considering how much we paid.

What a wonderful surprise to find such an island retreat amid the myriad of huge, faceless spas that line the streets of Maui. The honeymoon ritual was just what we needed after a very long journey. Professional staff (stellar therapists – a man and a lady), nice local art hanging on the walls, and the salt room was unlike anything I’ve ever seen. It’s more meditative than treatment oriented. I hope they have outside massages when we come back. The hotel very guest oriented too.

Outrageously unprofessional practices. My wife and I went here for a couples massage on our honeymoon. Although the masseuses and massage were nice, the front desk staff Shane, added a $100 gratuity (25%) to our bill without our permission! Not even a suggested amount, he literally wrote the gratuity and then wrote the totalled bill with the grautity amount included. I was so caught off gaurd as I had never experienced such an action before. When I confronted him about it, he said with a smirk “yes I added a gratuity to your bill to save you the time in totalling it yourself. You can change it if you want, but no one likes to do math after a massage…”, guilt tripping my wife and I that anything other than the $100 gratuity and I would be cheap. It was absolutely outrageous. I then altered the gratuity and left with a very sour memory from an otherwise pleasant experience. I would never recommend this spa to anyone or be returning myself. Also,I will be following up with management of the Hoola Spa and Honua Kai Resort & Spa for further answers, and possible changes to this review.
