I have been going to Mrs. Kay for years now and she is absolutely the best. She truly cares for your hair and wants to make sure that both you and your crown look stunning and healthy! During my recent visit, my hair had very damaged ends and Mrs. Kay did a very beautiful cut making sure my hair is healthy, silky and hydrated. I loved the outcome! I had been feeling anxious about re-entering into public spaces ever since Connecticut began its re-opening phases and have not wanted to be anywhere indoors for a long period of time. Going to Miss Kay yesterday (June 27th) was the first enclosed public space I have been in since the COVID-19 pandemic, and I can not tell you how incredibly safe and welcome Miss Kay made me feel. She has no-touch hand sanitizers inside and outside of the front entry door. She provided me with a mask so that the one I came in with would not get ruined/wet when she was washing my hair in the bowl. She took my temperature with a no-touch thermometer. She ensured she kept her mask on at all times and explained to me how she sanitizes her equipment. It was very clear that Miss Kay is committed to prioritizing the safety of her clients and herself. And on top of all that SHE GAVE MY HAIR ALL THE LOVE IT NEEDED. I’d been trying to manage my hair on my own for the past 4 months, but it’s hard y’all! Miss Kay gave me a crystal gel treatment and literally brought my hair back to life, STRAND BY STRAND–she spent 60 minutes detangling, washing, conditioning, and steaming my hair because that’s the kind of quality care she gives to her clients. You can see from the attached photos how dry/brittle/unhealthy my hair was before (I was riding that struggle bus HARD) and then you can see how healthy and loved my hair was at the end of our visit in the beautiful two strand twists Miss Kay set me up with 🙂 I could go on and on with this post, but I want to end with saying my experience with Miss Kay not only left my hair feeling loved, but I felt so loved as a person. As she did my hair, we talked about life and encouraged one another as Black women and shared life stories–after leaving the salon, my heart was so full. After I discussed my issues about my hair, she immediately went into teacher mode and took the time to explain everything I needed to know, for the care and treatment of my hair. Her knowledge is impressive, and she is very detailed Oriented. I enjoyed my visit, even though I traveled 50 minutes, it was well worth the commute. My experience at Hair’s Kay salon was beyond my expectations. Kay is truly a professional and she loves what she does. After I discussed my issues about my hair, she immediately went into teacher mode and took the time to explain everything I needed to know, for the care and treatment of my hair. Her knowledge is impressive, and she is very detailed Oriented. I enjoyed my visit, even though I traveled 50 minutes, it was well worth the commute. Positive: Cleanliness, Professionalism, QualityKay is actually a rare gem. She was the first and still, to date, the best professional to have worked with my fine, naturally kinky / curly hair. I saw her during my 3 years of law school at Yale, and from the first visit she took the time to become familiarized with my hair and my Haircare practices to help assess what would improve and maintain my hair. Very few people go to those lengths but her priority is hair health, which is key for my hair’s growth since my soft, fine hair is very prone to single strand knots. I really have not met set someone as skilled, knowledgeable, patient and genuinely caring as she. My hair really thrived with her. None of this good hair / bad hair nonsense or other shaming. Her salon (the new location is GORGEOUS) was such a welcoming respite for my hair and literally my spirit. I only wished that I had such positive experiences growing up as a little black girl and the difference that would’ve made to my psyche and definitely my hair length! Kay is actually a rare gem. She was the first and still, to date, the best professional to have worked with my fine, naturally kinky / curly hair. I saw her during my 3 years of law school at Yale, and from the first visit she took the time to become familiarized with my hair and my Haircare practices to help assess what would improve and maintain my hair.
