Like any chain salon, it’s important to find a stylist you like and stick with them. Iris does a wonderful job and I get better cuts from her than places costing twice as much, and she usually has next-day appointments. I also had good experiences with some of the other stylists before finding her (and one bad one, but the manager fixed it immediately).

Amy is a great hairstylist and person! She is very kind and very good with hair. I came in for a haircut and ended up getting my hair colored as well. She did a really good job on the cut (my hair is thick and not everyone knows how to give a great cut with my hair) and the color is amazing! We had a very disappointing experience with the online booking. We made an appointment for my 5 year old’s back to school cut about a week in advance. When we showed up they had our appointment in their computer, but they looked very confused and then said the woman that was supposed to cut my daughter’s hair was on vacation. They then said wait a few minutes and someone else could cut it. Not a huge deal (I knew my daughter was super excited to get her hair cut so we waited). About 15 minutes later the woman who said she could cut her hair said she no longer could, her new client was there. No one else could cut her hair. We had to leave with no haircut. I would suggest calling but the customer service was very disappointing.

I have been a customer of Haircuttery in Kensington for the past 12 years. The only reason I come into this establishment in recent years is for the excellent cut and color that my stylist Iris provides me. No other reason. The “salon” is in bad repair – it’s shabby looking, the stylists overall look unhappy and worn out, the overall atmosphere is that one wants to get in and out as quickly as possible. The managers have come and gone so many times and have only created havoc. A criteria for office manager should be that they have been a stylist themselves so they understand the pressures of back to back appointments. Both stylists and customers get frustrated. At least improve working conditions.

Maria used to cut my hair at the Hair Cuttery, but she moved to another Salon, “International Hair Designers” in Kensington (near Five Guys). What’s annoying about Hair Cuttery is that they’ve been telling their customers, including me, that they don’t know where Maria is, which is a lie. More appropriately, they could have said, “It’s our company policy to not provide information about our past employees.” That would have been an honest statement and a reasonable policy to protect the customer base. If HC is telling their employees to say, “I don’t know,” then they’re teaching their staff to lie because they all know where she went. Anyway, I’m thankful I found Maria at her new location, so that’s where I’m going.

Gem in Kensington!! I’ve gone to many salons in Bethesda and DC But to my luck I found Maeza (who sold her own salon) but was now at HC. She is so artistic with Balayage, color and blending which is flawless! Maeza is the real deal when is comes to a master designer, she will transform your hair to gorgeous every time! First time visiting this Hair Cuttery and Amy for a haircut. She is awesome! I told her what I wanted and she understood exactly what I was asking. She did a beautiful job! she gave me great looking long layers. I can confirm with the previous review that she definitely knows how to make a lady’s hair look and feel pretty. She also gave great tips on how to take care of your hair and keep it healthy! I will definitely be coming back. She was also friendly and gave great customer service! The entire staff was very nice.
