I’ve been getting my hair braided at Golden Afrik for 5 years. Once I found this shop, I’ve never gone to anyone else for my hair braiding needs. The Ladies here take their time and make sure that you are satisfied with your hair. My go to choice when people ask me where I got my hair braided after 3 months of having my micros in and they still look great.

MY HAIR IS BRAIDED TO PERFECTION!!! They are professional, friendly, & fast. My hair is still neat after a month. So neat that they’ll probably last another 2 months. I went there 3 times and gotten my hair braided. For one they always wanna up the price. They always say something about hair to long or ten dollar a braid. They need to realize they or in NEW Orleans and other people do hair better than them and don’t charge by a braid. The first time I went got my hair braided the girl braided my hair so tight and I kept telling her she was pulling my hair to tight.I had lil bumps coming in my hair. And the second time I went to get it done. I had to go right back cause it kept coming a loose. They can’t do what the picture shows. And your braids always puff up in the back. They won’t get another dime from me. They need to get more professional. And get they prices right. They have a thing with the prices on them but they don’t go by them they to busy trying to jack the price up like u don’t see what the sign say. Don’t like that place.

I went to shop on a Thursday , and had my braids done. The whole while I was there they played African music and spoke to each other in the native language. I have no problem with you loving your curlture, but when you supply a service to the public, you should as least try and communicate with them, because they do speak English. But then my braids were too tight, so I tried to deal with it, but I could take it, so I went back the following Monday , and ask them to loosen the braids. I was trying to let her know what I wanted her to do and to not start directly at my edges, and not to pull too tight. She seems to get disguised, and reply “let me do my job”. I told her that her job is to accommodate the customers. And if she have a satisfied customer, it will become a return customer and also that’s how you get more customers is though word of mouth. But they still had there music going and talking there native language. They were very unprofessional and I would not recommend them to anyone I know, it’s a awlful place to go.

I’ve been dealing with Ms.Joy since I moved in New Orleans east in 2010 pretty good service, quality braids and they also take care of your hair is what I liked about them.But the down side is ,they always changing the prices they go up and up every time as though they charge you according to how they feel at the time. Ms. Joy and her team are a joy to work with and make you feel right at home. I have been coming to Golden Afrik for 4 years (after moving from New York). I cannot speak more highly of Ms. Joy’s work and Ms. Ester. If the two of them are braiding your hair, your hair will be braided perfectly. TIPS: Come on time. Don’t rush Joy. She will do an excellent job — most braiders will if you do not rush them. Call Joy if you are running late and let her know. Ask in advance about the cost and whether you can purchase hair from the establishment. Joy is Nigerian. She and her team will speak in their own language, but you should not take offense to this. If you have any concerns about the tightness of your hair or the style or do not like something, just ask (politely) and they will be happy to make you happy. Box Braids range from $150-$250; Micros from $150-250+; corn rows are from $65-$150. Cash only. Walk-ins welcome, but best to call in advance and secure a firm time. Shop opens at 8:30 and closes at 6pm or whenever the last customer leaves.
