I have been a client of Jennifer’s (FROhaus owner) for many years now. I have followed her to different locations because she does an amazing job with my hair, and I trust her. FROhaus is over an hour from my home, but I make the drive because of the service I get, and how good my hair looks and feels. Not only does Jennifer take the time to talk through everything she is doing during my service, but she also makes sure to answer any questions I may have. At this point, we basically co-parent my hair — that’s how invested she is in making sure I (and all of her clients) have healthy hair.We used to relax my hair and my god it was the healthiest relaxed hair ever. I decided to go natural only because I wanted more flexibility with my hair — not because it was unhealthy. She took me through the two-year process of going natural WITHOUT chopping off all my hair. Now I have healthy, natural hair.She never tries to sell me over-priced hair products, either. Rather, I use three products on my hair, two of which I can at the drugstore. It’s not about expensive products, it’s about what works best for her clients’ hair.Most importantly, she is well-educated and has imparted her wisdom on me. Thanks to her, I don’t have a “wash day” and it doesn’t take me hours to wash my hair. This might not be the case for everyone (if you listen, you know everyone’s hair is different and needs different treatment and love) but listening to her techniques made washing my hair so easy.She will also tell you the truth about your hair. She won’t damage your hair just for aesthetics – if you want to go from black to blond, it’s going to take awhile. Each appointment comes with a sharing of knowledge that the stylist (Jennifer) has acquired over her career and my hair always comes out amazing. Prices are on par with what you’d expect for these services and, honestly, the regular salon visits have made my natural hair care way simpler and easier on the wallet as I’m not spending money on products to hide poor hair condition! The new location is so cute and spacious and I really appreciate the extra attention paid to sanitation and cleanliness even BEFORE the pandemic hit. I’ve been a client for over five years now and there’s no one else I’d have as much trust in to touch my hair. Each appointment comes with a sharing of knowledge that the stylist (Jennifer) has acquired over her career and my hair always comes out amazing. Prices are on par with what you’d expect for these services and, honestly, the regular salon visits have made my natural hair care way simpler and easier on the wallet as I’m not spending money on products to hide poor hair condition! After months and months of searching for a natural hair stylist who specialized in heat preservation, I booked an appointment with Jennifer. Mind you, I live 4 hours away. I waited In the car with my partner for literally two hours before she arrived. During that time, she communicated with my partner a few times and expressed that she was caught in the middle of an accident. I understand, however we had afternoon appointments and we booked well in advance. Why not leave home sooner just in case something happens? Besides, we were first time clients and first impressions are everything. Prior to even booking, I read some rather disturbing reviews, about her lateness, however they were dated back so I ignored them. I’ve seen her on work on IG and it seemed as if she was very knowledgeable and passionate about natural hair so I’m like why not give it a try. The prices were very expensive and you have to pay the entire service before booking. I found this to be very unsettling, pay for something prior? However; against my better judgement I proceeded to book. When she finally arrived, she attempted to justify her lateness. Although her story didn’t seem 100% truthful, I listened and let her talk.Now, for $150+ I’m thinking I’m going to get this amazing spa like shampoo, the aromatherapy wrap that supposedly comes with the shape and sculpt, however; I received none of that. I will say that she did take her time to detangle my hair, so I’ll give her 1 point for this, however this price did not warrant the service I received. After my shampoo, she detangled my hair and placed my hair in Bantu knots to retain the moisture then she started blow drying using her technique. After the blow dry, she proceeded to flat iron my hair and passed my hair at least 3 times. Prior to her even flat ironing my hair, I mentioned how susceptible my hair was heat damage. She said confidently” Oh, I don’t do heat damage.” In that moment I felt relieved.Once finished, my hair looked nice however when my stylist went to wash my hair, my hair did not completely revert back. In fact I had to get 5 inches cut off. I was devastated. I’ve grown my hair for years and have never had this much heat damage. The entire experience was awful, I’d never recommend anyone going there, and if you ever see her convincing posts, ignore them and run. I have never had to write a review like this but I wanted to share my truth and hopefully save someone before this happens to them. When i started going to her, my hair was natural and i couldn’t get it to grow past shoulder length. I didnt understand my hair. I would get frustrated and had even contemplated relaxing it again. My hair is now past bra strap when straight and my wash and gos have people asking if im rocking a wig. Jen is a natural hair guru. She doesn’t only do hair she educates you on how to care for your particular hair type. If it won’t work for your hair type, she is honest and will tell you and then she’ll teach you what does. My go to hair natural hair style is the wash and go and you couldn’t convince me 5yrs ago that i had wash and go hair. Jen taught me that not only did i have the perfect hair to do this but how i could achieve it at home. I live in Brooklyn and I trek all the way to Jersey city for my quarterly hair cut, because she’s that good. Jen has taught me to love and care for my natural hair. This experience, was the epitome of why I have that belief. My appointment was at 10AM. Homegirl rolled up nearly 2 hours later. Due to “traffic and her Uber being pulled over”, all to find out (because she told on herself) that she lives nearby, and could have walked to the salon. We paid nearly $200 for a wash and press. Although it said it would come with an aroma therapy wrap, when we asked her about it, she played obtuse. The only wrap my hair experienced was a towel wrapped around my head from the sink to the chair. THEN, it was a rushed job!!! My hair lasted not even an hour when I pulled it down. The fact that she has no consideration for people’s time is unsettling. We booked WEEKS in advance due to a photoshoot. Thank GOD our photo shoot wasn’t until the next day! She’s very knowledgable with natural hair, but she has to realize, if she wants to continue to sustain a professional clientele, she needs to learn time management. I typically don’t agree with paying for services ahead of time, because usually it doesn’t work out in favor of the client. This experience, was the epitome of why I have that belief. My appointment was at 10AM. Homegirl rolled up nearly 2 hours later. Due to “traffic and her Uber being pulled over”, all to find out (because she told on herself) that she lives nearby, and could have walked to the salon. We paid nearly $200 for a wash and press.
