I messaged the salon to ask for a price for a cut, as well as ask if they had someone who had experience cutting curly hair. I started using devacurl products last week to get my curls back to their natural state. I have some heat damage from straightening my hair. These products dont have sulfates, silicone, parabens, etc.. she proceeded to tell me that she always cuts hair when its straight…so if I straighten my hair and come in and they cut it dry it’s such and such price. Otherwise if they shampoo cut and style is such and such a price. I told her I didnt want to add heat damage to my hair, and she proceeded to tell me that they use heat protection and one time wont hurt my hair…actually YES it will hurt my hair because I already have heat damage and frying my hair pin straight at 450° is damaging my hair even more. The heat protection has silicone and other ingredients that you should never use on waves or curls. I thought if you had a LICENSE to cut hair, you can cut straight hair AND curly hair . I guess they can only cut your hair if its pin straight and that’s bad for business. She had NO respect for the journey I’m taking to 100% natural hair. My hair needs moisture, and frying it with a straightener one extra time to cut it will take weeks to repair. I could not believe what she was telling me. I have had foils done there before and they did an ok job, but they are nothing phenomenal. Can’t even cut hair that isnt pin straight. I wouldn’t recommend visiting this place unless your hair is 100% straight, or you dont mind frying your hair to straw consistency in order fo cut it.

I was not impressed with my hair. As an African American woman I felt like the lady Tara was rushing to get it done and for someone who has done black hair, a poor job was done on mine. I felt like she rushed through it just to get me out of the way, but took her time with another Caucasian customer. When I told her she could massage my scalp harder it was not done. My hair doesn’t feel clean like it should. I’m not originally from Altoona, Pa, but I will not go there again. My hair has looked sharp when getting a roller set and wrap where I am from and from Darchelle in Lemont, Pa. No one in this area does an excellent roller set and that’s sad. When she wrapped my hair it looked the mine looks when I try to do it myself and that says something. I would not recommend this place for Black women, thats my opinion.
