I have gone to this place several times. Each time the service began to get worse. I promised not to go back and did. I wanted to give my natural hair a break. The hair job I got cost 160 and looks so horrible that I am taking it out after two days. The style is embarrassing! So Merry Christmas for the 160 I paid for the the worst hair job ever! Three of them participated in this travesty! It was a gross waste of money. They should care more about their other customers.

I have used the Braiding services here for years and have always been pleased and tipped quite well. I believe in paying for great service. Sad to say I will not return for service again. I went in for butterfly locs and got disaster and accused of causing the problem. I wasn’t familiar with the process for Braiding individually so I didn’t know what hair to purchase. The very rude, mean spirited lady at the front counter yelled and rudely told me to get the hair as if I was supposed to know what she was talking about. Excuse me Miss Lady, but you work here and are the expert , but I digress. I got the hair and the lady that started braiding my hair provided understanding. Another lady came over to braid after she finished someone else and that’s where the trouble began. I paid $220 no tip this time bc service was rude and mean. I left and got home and the loc begin to unravel. I tried to fix it, yes cut it and messed it up… No prob… I could live with it…. one and only one braid…. But then another one and another and another came undone. I went back to the shop and stated what happened. They all proceeded, to in a very nasty tone, tell me I cut them and that was the problem… I stated , “ Will you let me speak?” Boy oh boy they weren’t having it. They started repairing and I left. Well here I am today and more braids are coming apart … $220 for horrible service and accusations hurled… Lesson learned. I’ll find another place. Hope this helps someone.

Im really disappointed with the stylist that were in the shop Tuesday gave me box braids instead of knotless for my retouch .. Ive been coming for years.. Mrs. Tola needs to hire some new braiders that actually will be happy to come to work and not argue

Came here to buy hair and the lady asked if I was getting my hair done there…. I did not even know they did hair in the back but I am very pleased with my hair the staff were friendly and fast my same day appt was at 12 I only sat for about 20 mins before they started the price was reasonable

I got my hair done at the beginning of March. My experience with Essence Braiding was absolutely wonderful, it’s a one stop shop I also purchase hair from them as well. I arrived when they open and explain to them what I wanted, the price was reasonable. I got medium size box braids. They lasted for 3 and half months with proper care. It was definitely a life saver especially when the pandemic begin and I couldn’t get my hair done. I will be coming back soon to get my hair braided.

This beauty supply and hair salon is the only one I’ve ever gone to in Houston. They are great at what they do. Just show them a picture and they will have you looking fabulous. I chose to only go here because they are professional, neat with their braiding and fast. They also don’t braid extremely tight to where you have to worry about your edges which is very important to me since I am tender headed. Make sure you have cash. They only take cash for payment. There is a atm at the nearby Foodarama. I would suggest you get cash there before getting your hair done. This place is great. Thank you ladies at Essence!!

I started going here about 6 years ago. Every time I go, I have a horrible experience. I always wait months or maybe even a year in between visits, thinking things would be different. Nope same experience. Ladies are rude when you have an opinion about how you want your hair. They get mad when you want what you asked for instead of what they suggest, like you haven’t dealt with your own hair your whole life. No sanitation between clients, eat over clients head, rude to other clients, and argue with each other in front of clients!!! I only keep coming back because of convenience but I WILL NEVER SPEND MY MONEY HERE AGAIN!

I was referred by a friend and have been coming here for years. The staff is has always been friendly and professional and any service performed has been completed well. It’s hard to find a braiding salon that can execute your wishes, tame your crown in a beautiful fashion and a timely manner and but somehow the ladies of Essence have mastered it. Plus you can get all the beauty products you need in the same space.

I’ve been going here since 2002 and I have only had one bad experience with one particular Braider who was mature and professional enough to understand my point and gave a genuine apology for not paying attention to my original style request. NOW this was probably successful because I didn’t allow her to finish ; the minute I realized she was not doing my hair correctly I stopped her and explained my concern. Needless to say we worked everything out and everybody went home happy she got paid I got a new hairdo. Overall I’ve had great experiences here, I’ve never experienced racism, rudeness, or unfair salon practice. Grant it things happen but even in my mishap the lady was able to own it and we moved forward. Everyone always compliments my braids. I can bring in a picture and they make it happen. Good quality good service and pretty good people.

I have been going to this place for YEARS, and it used to be great. Recently I went and there were new people that did a horrible job. The box braids were slipping out within three days (and I have a decent amount of hair), braids didn’t last a month when before they would last three months easily. When I called and informed them that the braids were coming out, she tried to say it was because my hair was short (without even remembering who I was) and my hair is not short in any area. Taking them down were a horror story. Braids were super tangled and knotted. Super sad I have to find a new braids shop after all these years, but based on others recent stories and my own experiences, I will not be returning.
