Skin Care Clinic
Acne
Although they can appear anywhere, symptoms of acne usually appear on the face, neck, shoulders, back or chest. Symptoms of acne may include the following:-Blackheads-Whiteheads-Cysts-Nodules-Pustules-Redness-SwellingThese symptoms can come and go, and may flare up at certain times as a result of hormonal or environmental triggers such as pregnancy, menstrual periods, high levels of humidity, using oily cosmetics or hair products, and taking certain medications. Severe cases of acne may cause scarring, which can have a damaging emotional effect on the sufferer. If acne symptoms do not respond to over-the-counter treatments, or if scarring develops as the acne clears up, a dermatologist should be consulted.
Actinic Keratosis
Symptoms of an Actinic KeratosisAn actinic keratosis appears as a scaly reddish or tan lesion on the epidermis, or surface layer of the skin. It may manifest as rough or scaly skin, bumps, mottled patterns, or protrusions called cutaneous horns. Actinic keratoses usually appear on the face, including the ears and lips, or on the neck, arms and hands.The lesions may range in size from a pinpoint to several centimeters in diameter and may be yellow, brown, red or violet in color, and smooth, wrinkled or furrowed in texture.
Alopecia Areata
Apart from hair loss, alopecia has no effect on physical health. With alopecia areata universalis, however, the loss of eyelashes, eyebrows, and hair in the nose and ears increases susceptibility to dust, pathogens and other airborne particles. For the majority of patients, however, the emotional toll it takes is the worst part of alopecia, which can have a negative effect on self-image and self-esteem.For most patients, the condition is temporary. In some cases, however, patients have a greater risk of permanent hair loss. That risk increases when the following occurs:-Alopecia develops at a young age-Hair loss is extensive and has lasted more than a year-Patient has serious allergies-Patient has an autoimmune disorder-Patient has abnormal nails
Athletes Foot
Typically, the first symptom of athlete’s foot is itching between the toes. Other symptoms, including red, itchy, stinging or burning skin, and oozing or crusty blisters, may develop in a short period of time. The skin may flake, crack or peel. If the fungal infection spreads to the nails, the nails may become discolored, and thicken or, possibly, decompose.
Atopic Dermatitis
Atopic Dermatitis or eczema occurs in certain individuals who have the tendency to produce more IgE antibodies. It starts in infancy and usually presents early in life. The skin is extremely itchy and dry with scale. Over time the area of eczematous lesions can become thickened and darker in color. The face, scalp and limbs are common sites. It is a chronic illness with bouts of acute attacks.
Basal Cell Carcinoma
Basal cell carcinoma may appear on the skin as a new growth that bleeds easily or does not heal quickly, and may be white, pink, flesh-colored or brown. Additional symptoms of basal cell carcinoma may include:-Smooth or waxy bump-Flesh-colored or brown scar-like lesion-Firm, red nodule-Crusted, flat lesion-Rough and scaly patch red or brown of skin-Existing mole that changes shape or color
Bedbugs
Bedbugs are mall parasite insects which feed off blood. The usually live in upholstery and are active during the night time. These bugs leave bites that look like small red papules and are itchy. The bites usually occur in clusters.
CO2 Laser
The CO2 laser is a carbon dioxide laser used in skin resurfacing. Its effects are similar to those of chemical peels and dermabrasion, except that the laser removes skin layers by vaporization rather than with chemicals or a sanding device. The CO2 laser is commonly used to treat wrinkles, blotchiness or age spots, and scars from acne or other causes.

Cold Sores
Cold sores, also known as fever blisters, are among the most common oral lesions, occurring on the lips or around the mouth. These sores, which are often painful, are caused by the herpes simplex virus. There are two types of herpes simplex virus, HSV-1 and HSV-2. Cold sores are usually caused by HSV-1, while HSV-2 is usually the cause of genital herpes.The same virus that causes cold sores may also result in other symptoms, including fever, sore throat and swollen glands. Cold sores are normally diagnosed through physical examination alone, unless the physician suspects another variety of lesion.
Common Warts
Warts are a common skin condition resulting from infection by one or another strain of human papillomavirus (HPV). There are several types of warts that can affect individuals of any age, but some types are more commonly found in children and some more often found in adults. Many types of warts, especially those usually found on children, disappear on their own. When troublesome, warts can be treated with medications or otherwise removed.
Contact Dermatitis
In addition to an area of itchy redness on the skin, contact dermatitis may also result in: swelling, scaling, blistering, painful sores or cracked skin. One of the significant clues to the fact that the condition is, in fact, contact dermatitis is the fact that the rash occurs only in a defined area, such as under a ring or watchband, or at the place where a particular material touches the skin. At times, when the condition is more severe, the skin may bleed or appear to have been burned by the offending substance. Symptoms may develop upon first contact or may develop only after a period of exposure.

Dandruff

Individuals suffering with this type of dandruff experience dry skin not only on the scalp, but on other parts of the body, such as arms and legs, as well. Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans
This is a very rare skin tumor which arises from the middle layer of the skin called the dermis. It starts off as a firm area of skin, which can resemble a pimple of a bruise. These lesions that is typically found on the trunk and limbs.

Dry Skin
Causes of Dry SkinAging, and its resulting changes in hormone levels, is a common cause of dry skin. In addition, certain diseases or environmental factors may cause the skin to become excessively dry.Disease Conditions that Cause Dry SkinSkin dryness may be caused by several skin disorders, including contact dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, a form of eczema, psoriasis, and ichthyosis, a genetic disorder causing a dry scaly appearance to the skin. There may be difficulty at first in distinguishing early symptoms of these conditions from more ordinary dry skin.Environmental Factors that Cause Dry SkinSome of the environmental factors that may cause the skin to dry out include:-Exposure to hot or cold weather-Long hot showers-Dry indoor heat-Harsh soaps, shampoos or detergents-Particular dyes or chemicals-Sun exposure
Dyshidrotic Eczema
Dyshidrotic eczema is a common form of eczema that causes the formation of small, itchy blisters on the edges of the toes and fingers, as well as on the palms and soles. There are many triggers and causes for developing this. The blisters can occasionally be painful but usually clear within 3 weeks.
Eczema
Eczema usually appears as a red rash on the skin, and can include the following symptoms:-Raised crusty patches-Blisters that ooze-Dry or scaly skin-ItchingSkin discoloration can also be a symptom of eczema.

Fraxel – Laser
Fraxel laser treatments are performed in a doctor’s office and, in most cases, only topical anesthesia is needed. Treatments usually take between 20 and 30 minutes. Genital Herpes
Most patients affected with genital herpes experience little to no symptoms from this condition. When symptoms do occur, they often involve one or more blisters on or around the mouth or genital area. These outbreaks usually come and go over the course of many months or years, but the infection remains present in the body. Symptoms of genital herpes may include:-Sores on the mouth or lips-Sores or blisters on the genitals or anus-Fever-Body aches-Infection of the eye-Headache-Swollen glandsOutbreaks of genital herpes may occur four to five times during the first year of infection, but tend to decrease in frequency and severity over time.
Genital Warts
Condylomata accuminata, or genital warts, are caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV) and is spread by sexual contact. The warts tend to occur in clusters, usually around the anus or the labia. They have a cauliflower-like appearance and may become quite large.
Hair Loss
Some of the causes of hair loss include:-Male pattern baldness-Fungal infections of the scalp-Severe infections or high fevers-Poor nutrition-Certain medications-Traumatic stress-Trichotillomania, a psychiatric disorder involving compulsive hair-pulling-Thyroid or pituitary disorders-Certain skin disorders, such as eczema or psoriasis-Autoimmune diseases, such as lupus or polycystic ovary syndrome-Chemotherapy or radiation therapy-Alopecia areata, an autoimmune disorder-Telogen effluvium, in which too many hair follicles remain in a resting state
Head Lice
Symptoms of Head LiceHead lice can usually be seen with the naked eye and may appear as lice eggs, called nits, or as adult and child lice. Head lice causes itchiness and small sores from scratching to appear on the scalp. If your child is constantly scratching or complaining of an itchy scalp, seek medical attention.
Herpes Simplex
Herpes simplex is a virus that is spread by direct physical contact or by contact with infected bodily fluids. Herpes simplex virus (HSV) is responsible for the sexually transmitted disease herpes, as well as cold sores, although they are caused by different strains of the virus. Once infected with herpes, there is no cure, but there is treatment that can manage the disease.
Hidradenitis Suppurativa
Hidradenitis suppurativa is a chronic inflammatory condition. Tender swellings in the armpits and the genital region develop, similar to boils. They are red and painful and can have a pus-like discharge. Hidradenitis suppurative is usually recurrent and runs a prolonged course and requires incision and drainage for relief of symptoms. Newer successful treatments have become available.
Hives
Hives, also called urticaria, is a common skin condition in which swollen, pale red bumps, also known as welts or wheals, suddenly break out on the skin. Hives cause itching, stinging or burning and may appear anywhere on the body. Hives are most often an allergic reaction, but sometimes the allergen precipitating the adverse reaction is unknown. Hives is never a contagious condition..
Hyperhidrosis
If the hyperhidrosis is caused by an underlying condition, it is known as secondary hyperhidrosis. These underlying conditions may include:-Anxiety-Diabetes-Heart disease-Hormonal changes-Gout-Blood sugar problemsCertain medications may also cause hyperhidrosis. In some cases, there may be no known cause for this condition, although one theory is that nerves overreact, causing excessive sweating. Hyperhidrosis that has no specific cause and is not caused by an underlying medical condition is known as primary or focal hyperhidrosis. This condition tends to affect both sides of the body and can occur on the hands, feet, underarms, head and face.
IPL – Intense Pulse Light
Intense-Pulsed-Light (IPL) skin rejuvenation uses high-energy pulses of light to improve the skin’s appearance. Also referred to as IPL photorejuvenation, photofacial therapy and pulsed-light therapy, IPL skin rejuvenation is a nonabrasive and noninvasive treatment option for removing red and brown pigment from the skin. IPL is used to treat age spots, birthmarks, freckles caused by the sun, symptoms of rosacea, spider veins, and scarring from acne; it is also an effective tool for hair removal. IPL penetrates below the surface of the skin, leaving the top layer of skin intact, which means that there is no post-treatment recovery period. The light is absorbed by the pigment in sunspots and the blood in the visible vessels, and converted to heat. The heat dissolves the cells that create the pigment and shrinks the vessels.
Impetigo
Impetigo is a contagious bacterial skin infection frequently occurring in infants and young children. It is almost always caused by one of two types of bacteria: staphylococcus (staph) or streptococcus. Impetigo usually develops where the skin surface is compromised, enabling bacteria to invade. This may occur where the skin has a cut, scratch, bite or itchy rash. Impetigo often occurs at the end of a cold, when the skin around the nose or mouth is sore. The first signs of impetigo are the appearance of small itchy pimple-like sores. They may appear anywhere on the body, but most frequently occur on the face, arms, or legs. The sores eventually fill with honey-colored pus, break open after a few days and form a yellowish crust. The itchy sores can be spread by scratching to other parts of the body or from one person to another.
Injectables
IntroductionGreat for concealing the effects of aging, as well as freezing aging in time. Can also be used in younger patients as a preventative measure.OTOX® Cosmetic is a prescription drug that, when injected, temporarily paralyzes muscles. It contains a purified and safe form of botulinum toxin A, which is produced by the microbe that causes botulism. Manufactured by Allergan, Inc., it is used to treat permanent furrows and deep wrinkles in the skin that are formed by the continual contraction of facial muscles. In addition to its cosmetic applications, it is used to treat a number of medical problems, including excessive sweating, overactive bladder, neck spasms, crossed eyes, chronic back and jaw pain, and migraines.Although originally approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of eye and muscle spasms, BOTOX Cosmetic was quickly recognized for its cosmetic value. Properly placed injections of BOTOX Cosmetic block nerve impulses sent to muscles, weakening them to the point where they cannot contract, and temporarily eliminating moderately severe furrows and lines. BOTOX Cosmetic is used to treat the following:-Forehead furrows-Frown lines-Crow’s feet-Skin bands on the neckAccording to Allergan, BOTOX Cosmetic has been “extensively researched, with approximately 2500 studies.”Prescription Dysport® injectable is a U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved treatment for temporarily lessening or eliminating moderate-to-severe frown lines between the eyebrows. Like BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport injectable is placed directly into the muscle underneath a furrow, weakening the muscle to the point where it cannot contract.Dysport, also known as Reloxin, is made from a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum; it is the same neurotoxin used in BOTOX Cosmetic.Medically, Dysport injectable is used to treat excessive underarm sweating; symptoms of cervical dystonia, which include neck pain and abnormal head position; and muscle spasms. It is the first and only FDA- approved injectable treatment to improve the appearance of the “double chin”.Sculptra®Sculptra® Aesthetic injectable is used to reverse the signs of facial fat loss that occur with aging. By restoring collagen, which decreases as the body ages, it fills out shallow-to-deep wrinkles and folds that run from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth (nasolabial folds). It is not appropriate for use in the eye and lip areas.
Keloids
A keloid is an overgrown area of scar tissue that forms at the site of a previous injury such as an incision, wound, vaccination, acne or piercing. An irregularly shaped pink or red scar that is raised above the rest of the skin, a keloid may grow into areas that were not affected by the initial injury. A keloid is generally painless, but may feel itchy or be sensitive to the touch.
Keratosis Pilaris
Keratosis pilaris is a benign skin disorder involving a blockage of the hair follicles by keratin, a protein that protects the skin from infection. When the condition occurs, a scaly plug forms, blocking the opening at the end of the hair follicle. In most instances, many plugs form at the same time, creating patches of rough, bumpy skin. Typically, keratosis pilaris appears on the upper arms, thighs, cheeks and buttocks. When evident on the face, it is sometimes mistaken for acne.Though occasionally pink, the small visible bumps of keratosis pilaris are usually white and coarse in texture, and may be surrounded by pink skin. While these blemishes are harmless and typically do not result in itching or pain, they may be a cause of frustration because of their negative effect on the appearance.
Lichen Planus
Lichen planus lesions on the skin may appear alone or in clusters and are often itchy and can sometimes become painful. The lesions may be distinguished by a white streak running through the center. Additional characteristics of lichen planus on the skin may include:-Patches of thickened, rough skin-Shiny or scaly appearance-Reddish-purple color
Lupus
The symptoms of lupus may vary with each individual, however, the most common symptom of lupus is a butterfly shaped rash that appears on the face. Symptoms of lupus can come and go and be mild or severe, and may commonly include:-Muscle pain-Pain and swelling in the joints-Fatigue-Fever-Chest pain-Sensitivity to the sun-Skin lesions-Swollen glands-Hair loss-Headaches-Purple or blue fingers and toesSporadic symptoms, known as flares, may be triggered or made worse by certain environmental factors such as sunlight, stress,infection, injury, or fatigue. In severe cases, symptoms of lupus may include confusion, dizziness, memory loss or seizures. Depression may also be a symptom of living with lupus.
Melanoma
Early signs of melanoma are related to changes in shape or color of existing moles, or the development of new ones. Early signs of melanoma are generally identified by the mnemonic ABCDE:-Asymmetry-Border irregularity-Color variation-Diameter greater than 6 mm-Evolution over timeEarly signs of melanoma may develop from existing moles or may resemble moles. The majority of melanomas are black or brown, but can also be skin-colored, pink, red, purple, blue or white. During later stages, a melanoma may itch or bleed. If a melanoma is diagnosed and treated in its early stages, it is usually curable; however, during later stages, it can rapidly spread to other parts of the body, become hard to treat, and possibly be fatal.
Melasma
Melasma is a common skin condition in which patches of skin on the face darken. Typically, the affected areas are the cheeks, bridge of the nose, forehead or upper lip. The dark patches are often symmetrical. Melasma can occur in anyone, but is much more frequently found among women, especially women who are pregnant when it is called chloasma, and is sometimes referred to as the “pregnancy mask.” Although not a painful or dangerous problem, melasma can be very distressing emotionally because of its alteration of the appearance. Melasma is not always a permanent condition. It may disappear in a woman several months after she gives birth, but may reoccur after unprotected exposure to the sun
Merkel Cell Carcinoma
Merkel Cell Carcinoma is a rare but very aggressive skin cancer that arises from the cells which are found in the outermost layer of the skin. It is a fast growing, painless nodule that is skin colors or pink. It commonly occurs on the face but can occur anywhere else. Diagnosis can be made with a skin biopsy.
Micro-Needling – Skin Resurfacing
Microneedling is a skin-rejuvenating procedure in which tiny needles create punctures in the top layer of skin with the goal of improving overall texture and appearance. This process signals your body to produce more collagen. It is comparable to when you exercise and create micro tears in the muscle, which causes the muscle to heal tighter and stronger than it was before. It helps to reduce pore size, fine lines and wrinkles, acne scarring, and stretch marks. Also considered to be a preemptive approach Micro-Needling will cause your top layer of skin to peel off leaving you with a new , glowing complexion.
MiraDry
MiraDry® uses a non-invasive handheld device to deliver precisely controlled electromagnetic energy beneath the underarm skin to the specific area where sweat glands are located, resulting in the decomposition of the sweat glands. While the sweat glands are being eliminated through electromagnetic technology, the top layers of the skin are simultaneously cooled and protected. Sweat glands are not believed to grow back after treatment so the effect can be seen almost immediately and results are lasting. Some patients may only need one treatment but, for best results, two procedures spaced three months apart are recommended (occasionally a third treatment may be required.)
Moles
Moles are growths on the skin that are usually brown or black; they may be located, alone or in groups, anywhere on the body. A birthmark is a colored mark that appears soon after a baby’s birth. Although many moles and birthmarks are completely benign and pose no health risk, some people choose to remove them because they consider them unattractive. Regularly using a strong sunscreen, and monitoring birthmarks and moles for changes, is highly recommended.
Molluscum Contagiosum
Molluscum contagiosum virus, also known as MCV, is a viral skin infection, that causes small painless bumps on the skin. Skin bumps usually appear anywhere on the body two to seven weeks after exposure to infection, although in some patients it may take up to six months before symptoms are present. While it is more common in children, MCV can affect adults with a compromised immune system. Adults affected with MCV in the genital area are diagnosed with a sexually transmitted disease. MCV can be spread through vaginal, anal or oral sex as a result of skin contact with an infected area.
NG:YAG & Alexandrite (ALEX)
Used for the treatment of sunspots and tattoo removal. Can be used for spider and thread veins in the facial area, haemangiomas, and varicose veins.-Nd: YAG best for people with moderate (tanned) to dark skin color-Alexandrite (ALEX) best for people with light to moderate skin color
Nail Fungus
Tinea unguium is a fungal infection of the nail plate. The nail plate becomes invaded by the fungus, causing it to become discolored, thickened and prone to crumbling. Usually the infection starts with one nail and then spreads to the others.
Neurodermatitis
Also known as lichen simplex chronicus, neurodermatitis is a condition that begins with a patch of itchy skin that can occur anywhere on the body. Scratching this patch often makes the itch worse, and this cycle eventually leads to the thickening and discoloration of the patch.
Nickel Allergy
Nickel is an element that is commonly found in jewelry, zippers, eyeglasses and coins. It is a common source of irritant contact dermatitis. An itchy, eczematous rash will occur wherever the skin is in contact with something containing nickel.
Nummular Dermatitis
Nummular Dermatitis coined shaped. These patches are usually weeping or crusted, with scale and severe itch. This form of dermatitis is commonly found on the limbs.
PDL – Pulse Dye Laser
The PDL delivers an intense, yet gentle, burst of light into targeted areas of the skin, and the light is absorbed by specific blood vessels or pigmented areas in the dermis. This causes damage to the lining of the target blood vessel without damaging the surrounding tissues and skin. The body absorbs the damaged blood vessels, and the flow of blood is re-directed into deeper vessels. The length and number of treatments needed will depend on the size of the area being treated and the severity of the condition.Some of the most common conditions the PDL can treat include: Angiomas, Facial Redness, Facial Vines and Broken Capillaries, Poikiloderma, Port Wine Stains, Rosacea, Scars, Stretch Marks, Warts, Wrinkles.
Pemphigus
Symptoms of pemphigus vary depending on its type and severity, though the condition is generally characterized by blisters and open sores, which may be painful and extremely itchy. Blisters in the mouth may affect breathing and swallowing and blisters in other places may adversely affect other normal bodily functions and activities. If left untreated, pemphigus can lead to infections that spread through the bloodstream.
Pityriasis Rosea
Pityriasis rosea is a common rash that usually begins with a rather large, often scaly patch, known as a herald patch, on the chest, back or abdomen. Although the rash spreads within hours or days of appearing, it is normally confined to the trunk of the body and the legs and does not affect the face, hands or feet. Most often, patients who develop this condition are between the ages of 10 and 35. The condition is not usually serious nor contagious and usually resolves on its own within 6 to 8 weeks.
Poison Ivy, Oak, Sumac
Typically, a rash, a form of dermatitis, develops on the skin within a day or two of contact with the plant or its oil. The rash itself is not contagious to others and will not spread to other areas of the affected individual unless repeated contact is made with urushiol that remains on the body or clothing. Usually, the rash of poison ivy begins as a red, swollen, itchy area which then develops into hives and blisters. The rash may appear to spread as different areas on the body, perhaps affected at different times, react to the allergen. The itching becomes increasingly severe and may interfere with normal activities and concentration. While not usually a serious condition, the poison ivy rash can be extremely uncomfortable and distracting.In general, the poison ivy rash will disappear within a week or two. Patients are advised not to scratch the blisters, as bacteria from the fingernails may lead to infection. It is also advisable to bathe thoroughly, wash affected clothing, and clean any affected gear or upholstery that may contain trashes of the offending oil in order to avoid reinfection.
Psoriatic Arthritis
Psoriatic Arthritis is a condition in which joint destruction, typically the knee and hand joints, can occur. In addition to the classic psoriatic plagues which may or may not be present, there are commonly nail changes that can be seen, such as small pits on the nail surface, thickening of the nail plate, and discoloration.
Ringworm
The skin patches of ringworm have sharply defined borders and may present as rings, darker red at the perimeter and skin-toned within. Crusty or oozing blisters may also be present. When ringworm affects the scalp, there may be bald patches. When it affects the nails, the nails may discolor, thicken or even begin to decompose. Ringworm is generally diagnosed by a simple physical examination. Other methods of detection include lighting the skin with a blue light which causes the fungus to glow, administering a KOH exam during which a skin scraping is microscopically examined, or taking a skin culture or biopsy.
Rosacea
Symptoms of rosacea are usually visible on the nose, cheeks, mouth and forehead; they occasionally spread to the neck, chest, scalp or ears. Symptoms typically come and go, flaring up for weeks or months, and then fading for a period of time. They tend to worsen as the condition progresses, and are sometimes used to distinguish its four stages.Pre-rosacea symptoms include frequent flushing or blushing, which progresses to a persistent redness on the face. Vascular rosacea symptoms involve the swelling of small blood vessels (commonly referred to as spider veins and, medically, as telangiectasia) around the nose and cheeks. Oily skin and dandruff are also common during this phase. Inflammatory rosacea is the stage during which small bumps or pustules begin to develop; they then spread across the nose, cheeks, forehead and chin. Late rosacea is the most advanced phase, during which all earlier symptoms intensify.
Scabies
Although symptoms of scabies may be confused with other allergic reactions, the following are usually indicators:-Severe itching that is usually worse at night-Irregular rows of tiny bumps or blisters at the site-Connected individuals having symptoms at the same time-Irritation in the folds of the skinThe small rows of blisters that appear on the skin are actually the burrows of the mites. Most commonly, they appear between the fingers, in the armpits, and on the inner wrists, knees, breasts, shoulder blades or buttocks. In men, scabies are often found in the pubic region. Children most frequently show evidence of the infestation on the scalp, face, neck, palms, and soles of the feet.
Scalp Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a common, chronic skin condition. The result of a rapid buildup of skin cells, psoriasis causes red, raised, dry and cracked scaly patches, and even blisters, to form on the skin. In some cases, psoriasis affects the fingernails, causing yellowing and small depressions. Psoriasis can be mild, moderate or severe, and, in most cases, causes itching and burning in affected areas or skin.Psoriasis is the result of an autoimmune disorder, in which skin cells replace themselves every 3 to 4 days, rather than the usual 30, creating a buildup of cells on the skin’s surface, and causing symptoms to appear on the scalp, elbows, knees, hands, feet and genitals. Although there is no cure, there are several treatments available to effectively relieve symptoms. In the United States, more than seven million men, women and children have psoriasis.
Scaly Skin
Scaly skin is a common problem, particularly in winter months. Scaly skin is caused by soaps, aging and exposure to sunlight. The skin is itchy and has a dry, rough texture that can crack or peel.
Scleroderma
Symptoms of scleroderma may vary depending on which part of the body is affected. Skin changes are a common symptom of this condition and may include thickened patches or hardened bands of skin, as well as swollen fingers and hands. Additional symptoms may include:-Gastrointestinal problems-Raynaud’s phenomenon, numbness or color changes in fingers or toes-Joint stiffness and swellingAlthough not common, scleroderma can affect internal organs and cause lung damage, heart problems, high blood pressure and kidney problems.
Sebaceous Carcinoma
Sebaceous Carcinoma is a rare and potentially aggressive skin cancer with that arise from the cells of the sebaceous glands found in the skin. These lesions can be skin-colored or brown and may ulcerate the surface of the skin.
Seborreic Keratosis
A seborrheic keratosis usually appears as a raised round or oval scaly spot on the face, arms, chest or back. Often, these growths appear two at a time over many years. Typically, a seborrheic keratosis is small, usually with a maximum diameter of under an inch, and looks as if it has been pasted onto the surface of the skin. It may range in color from tan to black.Seborrheic keratoses do not usually discomfort the patient, although they may sometimes itch. If they are located in an area where clothing rubs against them, they may bleed and even, though rarely, become infected. Usually, a seborrheic keratosis is not painful or bothersome except cosmetically, but many people choose to have such a growth removed for aesthetic reasons.
Seborrheic Dermatitis
Seborrheic Keratosis is a common benign skin growth of unknown cause and typically occurs in middle aged and elderly people. The lesions begin as a flat, wart-like growth which is typically skin-colored or pink. These can later develop raised growths with a “stuck on” appearance which darken in color.
Shingles
Shingles most commonly presents as a painful rash of fluid-filled blisters wrapping around the back and chest, typically affecting only one side of the body. It is possible, however, for patients to have shingles with only a very mild rash or even no rash at all. Early treatment for shingles may minimize symptoms and prevent complications.Since shingles affects the nerves, patients may experience a wide variety of sensations at the affected site, including shooting pain, itching, burning and numbness. Additional symptoms of the disorder may include headache, fever, fatigue and body aches. The shingles rash usually lasts for several weeks to as much as a month. For most individuals, the pain lessens as the rash heals. Some patients, however, experience long-term nerve pain after a case of shingles, pain which may linger for more than a year.
Skin Cancer
Skin cancer, which is the most common form of cancer in the United States, is the result of the abnormal growth of skin cells. Cancer can affect skin anywhere on the body, but most frequently appears on skin that is exposed to the sun. There are more than a million new cases of skin cancer in the United States each year.

When the scalp is affected, the hair growing on the vitiligo patch is white. Vitiligo can also affect the chin or eyelid, in which case the lashes or beard become white. The texture of the depigmented skin is not altered and the condition is not painful, although the affected skin may be much more sensitive to the sun.

I was completely blown away by everyone in this office! Right when you walk in, the atmosphere is super relaxing. It’s much nicer than the sterile environment that I am used to. The lady at the front desk (Angela) was so warm and welcoming. Carissa was my awesome nurse. She took me back, answered all my questions and numbed my face (thanks!). Dr. Fichtel was so amazing. She explained everything thoroughly and gave great advice. I was really impressed that my comfort was such a priority. They use numbing cream before every procedure! I’ve never had that offered to me before. She even had the esthetician, Christopher do my makeup before I left. Everyone was so great and I’m looking forward to going back soon!

The Bexley office is a beautiful and clean office. The past two visits we have had extraordinary long waits to even be called back into a room (60 minutes sitting in the waiting room today). When the practioner finally comes, she is literally in the room for under 5 minutes. This is not really a problem since she addressed the issue, but I can’t see how the office seems to always be running so far behind. The prescriptions then had not been sent to our pharmacy 2 hours later. With such a state-of-the-art office, I would think they have e-prescribing which should only take a few additional minutes (if that) at the end of the appointment. I called the office to ask about the prescriptions and the receptionist seemed very unsure and just said “try the pharmacy at 5pm”

The atmosphere when you first Arrive at in the reception area is very inviting. The welcoming decor and staff make you feel at ease, along with the Spa water which is a great touch especially in the warmer months. My one goal this year was to not feel obligated wearing make up, after consulting with the physician we chose to do microneedling. The Micro Needling is pretty painless and gives great results, the treatment helped shrink my pore size and help clear up my acne scars. It also gave me more dewy texture in general. I would recommend Bexley Dermatology to anyone that needs a Dermatologist. The truly cater to all complexions.

When you walk into the office, it does not have a “medical” feel to it what so ever. You immediately feel relaxed and not nervous at all (for those who have the white cost syndrome). The staff is amazing and professional. The doctors truly know how to help their patients with their skin. I recommend this location hands down if your in need of a dermatologist and an esthitician!

Being as Dr Zirwas and staff are adjusting to a new office in Pickerington, I will give a benefit of the doubt. But let’s just say, my first visit to the office was not the best of experiences. I posted a less than favorable review that laid out the difficulties I experienced with the office staff. Dr. Zirwas took immediate note and called me personally to apologize and assure me he would immediately address the issues.

Very POOR customer service. I will be taking my services else where. It took them 3 weeks to get back to me on a question I had about my patch testing. I had to tell them the same question every time I called in, and each person said they would put a note in my chart… all the notes were the same, because I was saying the exact same thing every time I called in. I work with allergen they identified and that is why I needed such a timely response. I also work in the medical field and it is unheard of to let an established patient be treated as if there question didn’t deserve the time of day. This is the first review I have done on anything, that’s how strongly I feel about what happened.

Have been to both the Pickerington and Bexley office. Both were super helpful and knowledgeable and was able to get in quickly. Dr. Fichtel was a gem! Had a small procedure done and had to have my 4 yr old tag along and her and her team made us feel super comfortable and at ease. And that office is gorgeous. Definitely doesn’t feel like a dr. office, which is a HUGE plus.

I went to Bexley Dermatology a month ago to deal with my acne flaring up and to get a prescription for antibiotics. I chose this office because of the good reviews I found online. However, I am disappointed with the lack of professionalism. Over three weeks I have called several times regarding the prescription, most of which have gone straight to voicemail and were never returned. When someone did finally call me back to confirm the prescription was sent to my pharmacy, there was no acknowledgement of previous missed calls or explanation for what took so long (i.e., had there been technical issues with the phone or something of that effect I would have been way more forgiving.) The night I went to pick up my prescription I discovered that the physician had placed an order for $1,500 antibiotics – which no one told me about and I definitely could not have agreed to. That phone message has not been returned either. I finally went to a new doctor and was able to get started on a regimen the next day. Like I said earlier, I am disappointed in Bexley Dermatology and don’t recommend it.
