I went in for an updo for a holiday party and came in with a picture of what I wanted (a low bun with a braid and curls; see pic I showed her below). My hair is below my shoulders, so this is not a case of not-enough-hair-to-do-the-style. The stylist was nice and said she could do the style, but did not follow what was in the picture. She had to redo it 2x because she “didn’t notice” the braid the first time around or understand that there were some curls as well. I asked if she needed me to make the picture bigger and/or brighter a few times and she said “no.” Also, the updo was lopsided several times and she ignored me. She also loaded on the gel and hairspray (yikes!) on the tiny wispy hairs on my neck and bangs to make them curl without any heat, leaving my hair super crunchy. I finally asked her to stop and that I just wanted to leave.

This place is superb! Seemingly a hole in the wall but this is where the magic happens! Stephano knows how to account for your face shape and personality to bring out the you you’ve only drove for. He is an artist who is considerate and flavorful. His cuts last me as long as I need, and as they grow they gain more personality and attitude for me. I absolutely love it!

I love it here. Traditionally I only get my haircut every six months despite management because I could never find a reliable, consistent barber and, frankly, never found a look I enjoyed that much that wasn’t long. Kim, my barber / stylist at Differences, has completely changed that. I gave her a very vague description the first time I went, and she worked with me through the cut to determine what worked best. I held off a while before going back as was habit, but when I returned months later Kim knew me and cut my hair back to that same preferred style. She also does an excellent job with my beard (I am very, very protective), does a thorough shampoo and final eval, and closes with a quick upper back massage and styling if you’re going out.

I’ve been coming into Differences since 2003. Sureyya has been cutting my hair during this time. She took interest in making sure I had a regular scheduled cut . Differences just went thru a resent remodeling. The salon looks fantastic. But what really makes the salon are the people. The friendly and talented staff led by Stefano and Sureyya are a pleasure to see. I even drop by when I’m in Merrifield just to say hi. They are now some of my best friends .

Sureyya is absolutely wonderful! This salon has the best customer service, and if you’re blond DEFINITELY use Sureyya! My hair has a hard time holding onto the blond color, and where other stylists completely burned or broke my hair Differences was able to give me the color I wanted without tearing my hair apart or frying it. LOVE this salon!
